Why you should wee in the shower every day

Legs in shower

Weeing in the shower might not be the most talked about topic, but – surprisingly – it has its benefits.

There are plenty of gross habits many of us would rather not 'fess up to.

But at the end of the day, we’re all guilty of ‘gross stuff’ – like letting one rip, and scratching those not-so-polite places.

However, one topic that’s often hushed over is the controversial issue of peeing in the shower.

Yet, singer Kelly Clarkson has admitted to doing it, Madonna claims it can combat Athlete’s Foot(!) and US comedian Louis CK reckons anyone who doesn’t do it is a 'dirty liar'.

But if everyone had a little tinkle in the shower each day, think of how much water would be saved. As it is, standard toilets use 7.3 litres water per flush, while older toilets use between 16 litres and 32 litres, reports US organisation, Environments Protection Agency.

A few years back, students at the University of East Anglia campaigned for the 15,000-strong student body to take their first wee of the day while having their morning shower.

And over the course of a year, the university would have saved enough water to fill 26 Olympic-sized swimming pools. That’s a lot of water!

Don't fancy peeing in the shower? Another way to save water is to invest in an eco shower head. The Nosame® shower head has a clever design, so uses 30% less water, but doesn't feel any less powerful. See more details here at Amazon.

But if water-saving isn’t a good enough reason to give tinkling in the shower a go, here are four others:

You’ll save time

As parents, we know that any minutes we can save is a bonus. And if your little one is prone to joining you as you sit on the toilet, the shower might provide more privacy.

Your water bill will plummet

Instead of flushing the toilet every time you pee, letting it go in the shower will wash it right down the drain. A shower uses a ton of water in its own right, so there’s no good reason to add to that by flushing as well.

It could cut down on the cleaning

It’s a domino effect – every time you use the toilet, it gets dirtier.

So peeing in the shower, and letting the water wash it away, could save you a cleaning job.

Look, everyone does it

If you pee in the shower (and you’re still not game enough to admit it), you’re not alone.

According to a survey by glamour.com, close to 80% of all women admit to weeing in the shower.

See, there’s nothing to be ashamed of.
