Why growing up in the ‘90s was the best

Being a ‘90s kid was awesome, from playing with Polly Pocket to sitting on inflatable furniture. If only we could bring these back for our little ones!

Being able to go outside your house by yourself and play with the neighbour’s kids with your scooter, moon boots or roller skates and play until dinnertime gave you that ultimate sense of freedom.

And then asking your parents to buy you all the toys as soon as you’d seen it.

Smelly gel pens were literally the ultimate stationery must-have and made lessons much more fun.

Although Cat’s Cradle is an age-old game, it was really popular in the '90s. If you mastered the Eiffel Tower, you were playground royalty.

Before it was revealed how unhealthy they were and they were stripped from school dinner menus.

The Matey Bubble Bath bottles in the shape of your favourite characters were toys in themselves back then. Now, bubble bath just isn’t as fun anymore.

Until they inevitably deflated, of course.

Giant Gobstoppers took forever to finish, it’s actually a wonder we still have teeth left.

Polly Pockets were the best, and now they could be worth a fortune.

Dave Benson Phillips was every kid’s favourite person, as he hosted the children’s game show Get Your Own Back on CBBC.

MASH helped us predict our future houses, husbands and how many children we would have. If only we kept a copy to see now.

Chokers, tartan shirts, bucket hats, cargo trousers and many more fashionable '90s items were so great that they’ve all made a comeback!

Baby, Scary, Ginger, Sporty and Posh were, and continue to be, absolute icons. Thank god for the Spice Girls reunion!

Or that was the urban myth anyway. But we all invested time trying to get our aliens to have babies by sticking them in the freezer, running them under water or sticking two alien’s backs together.

Getting ready for a party, or school disco, in the ‘90s was the best. We covered ourselves in glittery hairspray, shadow, lip gloss and, most importantly, body glitter. OK, so it would clump a little but it still looked great!

The purple and pink combo background with Groovy Chick in a sassy pose was guaranteed to make your room trendy.

Expressing your fandom for your favourite bands and singers by covering you room, from floor to ceiling, with posters was the only way back then.

Every girl wanted to keep her secrets from their parents using the Girl Tech My Password Journal. Although they were intended to block out unwanted intruders, they were sometimes impossible for the rightful owner to get into, but hey, it was the ‘90s and technology was basic.

And singing the BN BN advert song continuously in your head while you munch away.

The recent bring-back of these wasn’t so well-received though, adults do tend to look a bit odd in jelly sandals.

Blind Date, Gladiators, Stars In Their Eyes the list of the fantastic TV shows that would fill our Saturday evenings with fun before bedtime could go on.

Pop-Tarts were brought over to the UK in the 1990s and it is one of the best gifts we've received from America.

Lunchables, Attack-a-snacks, baked bean pizzas, the 90s were certainly filled with fun foods.

Going to Woolworths with your parents meant one thing and that was being able to grab a huge tub and fill it with your favourite sweets from their huge pick'n'mix selection.

Back in the '90s we were encouraged to play video games for our homework. From Zoombinis to ArcVenture, they were pretty addictive, too!

You'd spend hours flicking through the Argos catalogue to find the next toy you wanted.

The catchphrases 'you've been Tangoed' and 'wassup' are still memorable today.

Blue Peter badges were the must-have thing in the '90s. Not only did they look cool, but you could get into some attractions for free just by wearing one. Even though they're still around today, they're not half as popular.

Blo Pens made colouring so much fun. Although when you do think about it, they were pretty unhygienic.

Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon were jam-packed with great cartoons including The Power Puff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Rugrats and Recess.
