You will need

Saucepan – this well-priced set of three aluminium saucepans are a must-have for every kitchen and can be used on all heat sources, including induction – see more details here at Amazon.

Hand blender – great for blending baby food, this blender by Russell Hobbs also has a chopper and whisk attachment – see more details here at Amazon.

Tips

If you prefer, you can feed this to your baby whole, without mashing - ideal for baby-led weaning. Just make sure the carrots and potatoes are cooked until they're soft, and that the fish has no bones in it.

Variations

Cod is so versatile - you can poach it, steam it, fry it or grill it for your baby. Other great cod serving suggestions for babies include:

  • Serve with your favourite veg: peas, beans and tenderstem broccoli are all great options, but it goes with anything. If you prefer to feed your baby purees, just whizz it all in a blender before serving.
  • Coat in breadcrumbs, grill, and serve with chips and mushy peas or beans for a homemade fish and chip supper.
  • Use it to make homemade fish fingers.
  • Combine with other fish and white sauce to make a fish pie - either using shortcrust pastry or by topping with mashed potatoes.

Is the cod cooked from fresh? Or can I use a frozen cod fillet?

  • Guest

How many portions would you suggest this makes? Just one meal or a few?

Is it ok to freeze this meal even if it has fish in it? - - probably a stupid question but rather be safe than sprry

I made this today for my eight month old daughter and she absolutely loved it! Will experiment with different vegetables next time.

Hi, Babies under 12 months shouldn’t be given cow’s milk to drink but it's fine to use in cooking. (It shouldn’t replace breast or formula milk as a drink as it is too high in salt and protein and too low in iron and other vitamins.) Lucyx Netmums Foodie Team

i thought babies under 1 could not have whole milk ? Do I have to replace this with made up formula ?

I do cod for my son, he loves it. I poach it in milk and blend with Broccoli, Carrots and white potato. If cod is really expensive, I use river cobbler, its a white fish like cod and he loves that too.

My twins loved this. I have made it quite a few times for them now each time adding different vegetables and using different types of fish.
