- Difficulty Level Easy
Preparation
- Total Time 35 mins
- Preparation Time 5 mins
- Cooking Time 30 mins
- 1 potato, diced
- 1 carrot, diced
- ½ small onion, finely chopped
- 100g extra lean minced beef
- ½ tsp tomato paste
- thyme
- parsley
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (optional)
- 250ml water
- Fry the meat and onion until browned (use a little vegetable oil if desired)
- Add the carrot, potato, tomato paste and herbs
- Add a cup of water, cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until the vegetables are tender
- Puree to a desired consistency
Tips
If you're doing baby-led weaning, or feeding an older baby or toddler, you can skip step 4 and serve it without pureeing. Or just mash it with a fork until it's the right consistency for your baby.
Fancy making this for the whole family? Multiply the ingredients until you have enough for everyone, then follow steps 1-3. Take out your baby's portion and puree if necessary, then add salt and pepper to add a little extra flavour for grown-ups and older kids.

I've made this for my 9mth old daughter and she loves it, just mash it a little once I've heated it so its the right consistency for her. Made it with sweet potato topping and it made a batch of about 10 good size portions which I froze for ease.

I reckon six months as you puree right down to mush or for older only pure to leave a few lumps in.
