Tips

If you steam the apple and pear until it's really soft, your baby can eat it from 6 months without pureeing. You may prefer to remove the skins, to further reduce the risk of choking. Softer fruits, such as slices of banana and strawberry, also work well in this recipe, and can be given to your baby without steaming.

Difficult to properly rate this as obviously I haven't tried it! My little one (will be 6 months on the 6th of feb) tried it and decided it was so yummy, mummy was not going fast enough and grabbed the spoon to feed himself...The floor...his ears...etc. I have tried all sorts with him but because before 6 months you're not advised to feed anything but fruit, veg and baby rice we have really struggled to find something he likes (homecooked or the jars). This he likes. I had some apple and pear frozen from a previous attempt at trying to persuade him to eat so just brought it out, heated it, mixed in some baby rice and cinnamon and once it was cool I offered it to him. Fortunately in a week or two the variety of things I can offer increases so hopefully this is the start of a messy journey! Thank you!

You certainly can use a pan I stead of a steamer... And Paula, the cooking liquid is the water left in the steamer or pan after you have cooked the fruit, some of the nutrients from the fruit will be in the water so much better to use than just plain water! :)-

Cooking liquid is the liquid in the steamer after you've cooked the fruit

  • Guest

Sorry, but what do you mean by 'cooking liquid'??
