Preparation

  • 500g lamb, cubed
  • 400g chickpeas (already soaked)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 onion
  • boiling water (as needed)
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • salt (optional)
  1. Pour oil into a deep cooking pan
  2. When hot slowly tip in the squared lamb and stir for about 3 minutes
  3. Chop the onion and fry with the lamb till brown
  4. Add salt (optional)
  5. Add 2 tablespoons of tomato paste and stir all together
  6. Sieve and rinse chickpeas under cold water, then place and mix into the pan
  7. Once all ingredients are mixed add boiling water about half way up the pan
  8. Boil for 4-5 minutes
  9. Turn down the heat and leave to simmer for 30-60 minutes or until meat is tender
  10. When meat is tender then its ready to serve

Tips

This could also make a fantastic weaning recipe for your baby, if you omit the salt and blend once the meat is tender.

Variations

If you want to liven this recipe up a bit for the adults at the table, try adding some dried herbs. You can just whack in a teaspoon or two of mixed herbs, or alternatively, rosemary, oregano and mint all go brilliantly with lamb.

This is a great recipe for using up leftover veg. From peas and broccoli to carrots and leeks. Just chuck in whatever veg you have lying around to make this simple stew even more nutritious.

    Easy to make but not very flavoured - perhaps a few herbs and spices might make it more tasty? The baby liked it blended and mashed into his rice so thumbs up from him

    You have to try this! Delicious, easy to make and so cheap, it's a firm favourite in our house :)
