Things we all did as teens to make ourselves look more grown up

Remember when you were 14 and your life goal was to successfully sneak into a 15 film at the cinema? We did some pretty cringe thing as teenagers to make ourselves look like adults ... but how many of these do you remember?

You barely had boobs but all your friends had already blossomed. You were desperate to fit in, so you begged your mum to take you to the local Tesco to buy you a double pack of AA sized training bras.

You finally had your training bra but you had one problem - you had no boobs to fill it out. So you'd grab a wad of toilet paper and pad the cups out with it. It seemed like such a good idea at the time.

Okay, so you weren't allowed REAL make up - but lip gloss was subtle enough that your parents didn't always notice. The flavoured ones, especially Lip Smackers and Juicy Tubes, were the height of sophistication.

Hair dye was a no-no with your parents, so this was the next best thing. Unfortunately, you never looked as good as the model did and the colour would barely show up in your hair.

In reality, you weren't allowed huge high heels - but you thought you looked the BOMB in your kitten heels, which only really added half an inch to your height.

Remember putting your chunky Skechers on to fool the cashier at the cinema into thinking you were a tall 15-year-old so she'd sell you a ticket to see Titanic?

You'd spend hours in Superdrug smelling the different cans. Then you'd get home and promptly use it all in one go.

You'd spend ages with a mitt trying to coat your body with the stuff, but were too young to really know what you were doing. Cue looking like a tangerine... and staining half the bathroom.

Back in the days when poker hair was all the rage, you'd bring your trusty Babyliss into school and quickly give your hair the once over during every single break time.

You hated the taste, but you thought you looked uber-cool walking down the street with a paper Starbucks cup in hand.

You weren't brave or old enough to get a real one. Remember pressing the transfer paper onto your arm with a scrunched up piece of wet toilet paper?

Because what's more grown up than coloured threads weaved through your hair?!

The day your mum said you could finally get a two piece was one of THE greatest days. Ever.

We'd didn't realise it at the time, but painting each nail a different colour AND adding glitter to them actually made us look younger, not older.

The day you finally convinced your mum to let you graduate from Tammy Girl into cooler, more grown up shops like Jane Norman, remains a MAJOR milestone.

It was no use just shopping in Jane Norman - you needed everybody to know it. So you'd drag your PE kit to school in one of the trademark's brightly coloured carrier bags and flaunt the hell out of it.

The D&G Motorola Razr was the must-have phone of the '00s. In reality, you ended up with the monstrosity that was the Nokia 3210 - and loved it anyway.

Two WKD blues and you thought you were being hardcore.

Remember when tracky b's were this cool? You'd play with the button poppers all day.

Paris Hilton was everything we ever wanted to be: sassy, chic, flirtatious and oh-so-fashionable.

The Tiffany charm necklace was the ultimate status symbol.

All of your friends thought you were the coolest and most grown-up teenager in town.

Only primary school kids wore their tie the normal way. Teenagers wore it with the thin end at the front and the fat at the back, obviously.

In reality, you weren't brave enough to buy some sexy knickers from there so you ended up buying their cheapest pyjama set instead. But that didn't matter because when you walked around town with your shopping bag, everyone thought you were a cool, independent woman.

The epitome of maturity.

Your eyebrows still haven't recovered.

Because only adults are bold enough to show a few inches of above-the-knee flesh.

Because nothing says 'I'm a grown up!' more than the glint of metal on your midriff.

Only adults need a watch, obvs.
