Getting fit is difficult at the best of times, whether you want to radically change your body or just feel better within yourself – and it's quadruply as hard when you're a busy mum.
In between the school run, looking after a baby or just balancing work with home life, going to the gym every week is just not realistic for many parents.
Plus, a monthly or annual membership can be SO expensive unless you're using it several times a week.
Don't worry though as there are so many ways to get fit without even stepping foot in a gym, and with the summer holidays fast approaching, now is the perfect time to start a new routine.
And, there's no need for crazy crash diets or intense running regimes, these easy-to-use fitness buys will help you to feel healthier, whatever your goals are.
The NHS has plenty of information about schemes and tips for getting fit, which you can read here.

1. Use fitness DVDs
Joe Wicks The Body Coach Workout, £2.99
Why go out to a fitness class, when you can bring the class to you?
From yoga to high intensity workouts, these follow-along videos come in a multitude of styles, formats and lengths.
They can be really helpful as most tend to include warm-ups and cool downs, to minimise injury, and include different intensity options. Plus, you can follow the whole workout plan start-to-finish as many times as you like, and really get your money's worth!
One of the most well-known, popular DVD workouts is Joe Wicks' The Body Coach Workout. With a focus on short, high-intensity workouts that you can easily fit into a hectic schedule, this plan is one for those who feel like they have no time to exercise. It costs £5 on DVD from Amazon, and no equipment is needed.
There's more than just fat-loss programmes available, though. If you're after something a bit more gentle, or want to exercise primarily to de-stress, try yoga or pilates.
Not only do the videos walk you through the movements, they also ensure that you breathe at the correct times, so you reap the full calming benefits of the exercise.
One of the benefits of choosing home videos over attending an exercise class is that you can choose when to workout, and it cuts down on travelling times. Flexibility is key – the exercise fits into your schedule, not the other way around!
As well as the DVDs and fitness guides that you can buy, there are plenty of videos readily available on YouTube for free – the only downside is that these tend to come as stand-alone videos rather than in a neatly-packaged plan which will take you from start to finish.
2. Buy dumbbells to use at home
Neoprene Dumbbells, from £9.99
Lifting weights isn't just a brilliant way to build muscle, it's shown to improve your mobility and overall health, too.
For information about exercise routines which are suitable to perform at home, read more on the NHS website here.
You can buy free weights from Amazon – just make sure to choose the correct weights for your strength, and if in doubt it's best to end up with weights slightly too light than too heavy.
These ones are made from an easy-to-grip neoprene and come in sets of two, with weights ranging from 0.5-10kg. They're cleverly shaped so they won't roll around on the floor, either.
3. Use ankle/wrist weights
Ankle/Wrist Weights £16.99
If you don't want to lift dumbbells but still want a toning workout, you could try strap-on ankle and wrist weights. Then, just go about your usual bodyweight or cardio workout and the added weight will help to increase your calorie burn and make your muscles work even harder.
This set from Amazon come in adjustable weights; from 0,5 to 2 kg. Even at the lowest weight, you'll definitely feel the burn!
4. Use resistance bands
Resistance Band Set, £9.99
Resistance bands are another great choice – they work in a similar way to weights by simply increasing the resistance your muscles are up against. Use them when squatting or during other leg workouts to ramp up the intensity.
You can buy this set of five bands from Amazon. Each band provides a different level of resistance from extra light to extra heavy.
5. Get skip, hop and jumping
Skipping Rope, £6.99
Want to build up your cardiovascular endurance without going out for a run?
Skipping, hopping and jumping is a brilliant way to do so.
You could buy yourself a skipping rope, or just jog on the spot.
This skipping rope is affordable and the length can be adjusted to suit your height. It has a high quality steel wire core, and an anti-slip handle.
Other at-home exercises you could do include burpees, jumping jacks, high-knees and jump squats.
They'll get your heart rate up, and don't require too much room (if you have a garden, even better!).
