20 St Patrick's Day crafts for kids

These fabric shamrocks can be worn as really cute St. Patrick's Day badges.

Cut out two four-leaf-clover shapes from two pieces of green fabric, then stitch them together with a button in the middle.

Cut out a shamrock shape from a piece of paper to use as a stencil. Arrange it over another piece of paper and have your child flick green paint onto the space around it.

The leprechaun trap can look however you like, but some elements that will help lure your leprechaun in include: the end of a rainbow, a pot of gold, and lots and lots of green decor.

This is a nice way to re-use your kids' old lollipop sticks.

Have your kid paint two lollipop sticks per colour, then arrange the shades together in order. Glue a spare lollipop stick down the middle on the back to hold all the sticks together.

On the front, glue down a paper cutout of a shamrock.

To make these 3D shamrocks, first cut out several strips of green paper.

Fold one strip in half, then twist the two ends together with the crease on the inside to make a heart shape. Repeat three times to make three small hearts, and twist all the ends together at the end to make a stem.

Next, take three smaller strips of paper and repeat the folding into a heart shape, but make these hearts slightly bigger. Glue the ends onto the smaller hearts to make your shamrock leaves.

Such a fun craft for a sunny day. Simply cut out a semi-circle from a piece of cardboard, then cut four rainbow arcs out of the middle (this can be fiddly, so you may want to help your kid with this bit).

Next, glue a layer of red, yellow, blue and purple tissue paper into each arch-shaped gap. Allow the sun to shine through the tissue paper outside and see how it creates a rainbow shape on the ground.

This is a clever step up from your average handprint art.

Help your kid paint their hand in different colours – red for the fingertips, orange for the next section of the finger down on, and so on. Then have fun printing rainbows onto a sheet of paper.

Use your kid's finger to paint on the shamrock stem, then sprinkle with biodegradable glitter.

If you want to keep your kids' creations afterwards, you could swap plasticine for clay and bake it when your kid is done playing.

A lovely way to brighten up any room. Make several paper chains out of different coloured paper, then hang up from your window using sellotape.

This activity can be doubled up with a fun scavenger hunt.

Get your kids to look around the house for as many (disposable) objects as they can find that are red, yellow, orange, blue, purple or pink. If you have a garden, or are out at the park, you could get them to look for items in nature instead.

Cut out a strip of paper in different colours, with red being the longest strip and purple being the shortest. Arrange the paper strips into rainbow arcs.

Staple or glue the ends together and glue on some cotton wool for the clouds.
