Things to do with kids in Rutland

Rutland, tucked away in the East Midlands, is England’s smallest county, but don’t let that put you off: there are plenty of things to do with kids in Rutland, from baby activities for the smallest members of the family to venues for action-packed children's parties.

Rutland Water, a vast manmade reservoir, is the focal point of the area and lives up to its name of ‘the playground of the East Midlands.’

You’ll find heaps of family-friendly activities centred around Rutland Water, including cycle trails, play areas, watersports, an outdoor activity centre and an inflatable water park. There are also weekend markets and car boot sales in the area, perfect for a leisurely browse with (or without!) the kids.

In nearby Oakham, you can take a trip back in time by exploring the Norman castle, Rutland County Museum and Oakham signal box: the template used by Airfix for their model railway signal boxes.
