This recipe makes a large batch...

  • Prep Time 10 mins
  • Serves 8+
  • Difficulty Level Easy

Preparation

  • Total Time 10 mins
  • Preparation Time 10 mins
  • 400g milk chocolate
  • 400ml condensed milk
  • 100g butter
  • 200g marshmallows
  • 200g glace cherries
  • 100g chopped nuts (optional)
  • 200g digestive biscuits
  • 50g raisins (or sultanas)
  1. Put the digestive biscuits in a thick plastic bag and roughly crush so that you end up with nice chunky biscuit pieces, then set aside
  2. Melt the chocolate and the butter together on a low heat (or in the microwave) - once melted, add the condensed milk, mixing thoroughly
  3. Take the chocolate mixture off the heat and add in the digestive biscuit and all the other ingredients - mix well
  4. You can add as little or as much as you like of the other ingredients and vary it to suit your tastes
  5. Tip the mixture into a tin lined with cling film (this well help you later!) - flatten out into the tin, and place in the fridge to set

You will need

Heat-resistant bowl - To melt butter and chocolate safely you will need a heat and thermal shock resistant bowl like this one from Pyrex. See more details here at Wilko.

Square baking tin - This non-stick and heavy gauge constructed biscuit/brownie tin is a kitchen must-have see more details here at Amazon.

Tips

This is absolutely perfect for cooking with kids. Even little ones can help crush the biscuits, and older kids can do most of it by themselves (with supervision), using the microwave. Let them use their imagination and come up with new ingredients to include, such as sweets, chopped-up chocolate bars or seeds.

Use chopped fruits for a slightly healthier cake!

Really good recipe. My 3 year old loved helping to make it. We will be making some more to wrap up as gifts for his nursery teachers this Christmas. We decorated ours with sprinkles on the top for extra sparkle!

hi,if you don`t like it so rich,,dont add butter and condensed milk, just use milk chocolate, biscuits, marshmallows, dried apricots, dried cranberries, drizzle with white chocolate and a little sprinkle of edible glitter---looks wow, tastes great!

this is such a fab recipe for even really little ones especially if you get all the ingredients ready in separate bowls before hand (blue peter style!) and the trick to cutting it and keeping it nicely is, as you cut it you sprinkle each side with icing sugar and then it doesn't stick together so much- and wrapped in some celo (get a couple of metres from your local florist for about 50p) it makes a gorgeous gift x

I made this yesterday, and although my diet won't let me eat it, I've been assured that it's yummy!! Hubby suggests swapping a small amount of the milk chocolate for some white chocolate so it's not quite so rich. We added some broken up malteasers and chocolate buttons too. It took a long time to set, but I think I had poured too much into one tin, so it was to thick a layer.

i made this and it tasted fab but i made the mistake of not putting cling film in the tray i used so was a total nightmare getting it out. I have made it again and cut into portions to gice as extra xmas pressies!

we made a smaller rocky road as there are only 4 of us! we used have the choc and half condensed milk and half a pack of biccies. we made our's abit kiddie and added sprinkles, smarties and little silver balls instead(what we had in cupboard)lol! was lovely, takes ages to set, hours and hours!

Will this work if I put into individual bun cases before putting in the fridge so they are easier to serve up at a party?

  • This is gorgeous. I have a tip - when it's semi set, remove from fridge and use a knife to score the portions out, then when it's fully set it's easy to break apart. I might try with dark choc next time :)

Yum, yum, yum!!! This was so easy, my 3 kids loved helping to make it, especially crushing the biscuits, and it tastes gorgeous!
