Rapunzel costume

The defining feature of this costume is of course Rapunzel's ridiculously long hair, and this is a great way to make your own 'wig'. It’s a bit of tricky one, though, so best steer clear unless you're a seasoned crafter!

You'll need:

  • 2 balls of chunky yellow wool
  • Pink or purple t-shirt
  • Close fitting knitted or crochet winter hat or a pair of old tights
  • Flower hair clips
  • Pink or purple skirt or tutu

Four easy steps

1. Make a wool wig, by measuring lengths of the wool then threading through holes in the knitted hat (see this tutorial).

Alternatively, cut the legs of a pair of tights to make a hat, then sew the lengths of wool to the home-made cap (this is a great step-by-step guide).

2. Place the Rapunzel wig on your child's head, split the wool hair into three and plait it.

3. Decorate the length of the plait with flowery hair clips or bobbles.

4. A pastel t-shirt and skirt or tutu will complete the outfit.
