Like for any grandmother – or indeed great grandmother – meeting a grandchild for the first time is a magical moment, and finally it seems the Queen is going to get her chance!

Her Majesty will meet Prince Harry and Meghan's daughter Lilibet for the first time at the little one's birthday party during Jubilee celebrations.

The 96-year-old monarch, who Lilibet is named after, is likely to miss her favourite sporting event, the Derby horse races at Epsom, prioritising her great-grandaughter's birthday celebrations in Windsor instead.

Harry, 37 and Meghan, 40, have only been to the UK together once since the soon-to-be-one-year-old was born on 4 June 2021. They managed a quick visit with the Queen whilst en route to the Invictus Games in The Hague in April. But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left then 10-month-old Lilibet and brother Archie, three, at their £12million California home, scuppering the chance for the Queen to meet her namesake, until now.

Prince Charles has also not met his granddaughter, and hasn't seen her big brother Archie since the Sussexes left the UK and moved across the pond to LA in 2020.

But all that is set to change.

The Mail has revealed Lilibet's first birthday is set to be celebrated at Frogmore Cottage next Saturday in Windsor – a much handier location for the Queen. Princess Eugenie and her family, who currently reside there, have vacated the Cottage ahead of their arrival.

The happy news means Anne, Princess Royal will be standing in for Her Majesty at the Derby, and the Queen can enjoy the family time just a stone's throw away from her residence.

Baby Lilibet was born in California. Unlike her brother Archie, three, who was born at London's Portland Hospital, a Royal favourite. The Queen met Archie two days after he was born on 6 May 2019.

We wish both little Lilibet and Queen 'Lilibet' the very best wishes on such a special day!
