There are lots of rules around what babies and toddlers should and shouldn't eat or drink, and parents don't always agree on what's best.

From honey and popcorn to tuna and raisins, not to mention sweets and chocolate, navigating your toddler's diet can be a total minefield.

One mum knows this all too well, after receiving criticism for posting a video of her toddler enjoying a cup of tea on TikTok.

@______leanne______ shared the clip of her young son sipping the drink out of a red square cup, and he seems to be thoroughly enjoying his brew.

The video has racked up 54.4k likes on the platform and more than 1,000 comments – although not everyone is impressed.

One user warned: 'My kids loved tea until my health visitor told me to stop – it can stop them producing enough iron and they can end up anaemic.'

Another said: 'Tea is just as bad as coffee, it's filled with caffeine which is bad for babies.'

However, others were delighted by the clip and defended the mum in the comments.

One user said: 'love the way he says "cup of tea" 🥰.'

Another wrote: 'Am I really seeing a debate over a kid having a cuppa? As long as it's a Yorkshire tea.'

Others were more concerned about the practicality of the cup her toddler was using, with one TikTokker writing: 'No issue with the tea but that's the worst thought out kids cup ever.'

@______leanne______ defended her decision in the comments: 'For the ones who are commenting about the tea. He had seen me with a cup of tea and wanted one, a cup with a small amount of tea in won't hurt him.'

According to the NHS, 'hot drinks' like tea and coffee 'aren't suitable for babies or young children' and any sugar added 'can lead to tooth decay.'
