  • 75g butter
  • 1 tbsp golden syrup
  1. Preheat oven 160'C/Gas mark 3

  3. Add the demerara sugar and porridge oats and stir together
  4. Heat the butter in a pan with a tablespoon of golden syrup

  6. Set them well apart on a greased baking tray and bake for 7-15 minutes, depending on your oven, until golden brown

You will need

Mixing bowl - You cannot go wrong with this simple Pyrex 2L one; it's microwave, oven, freezer and dishwasher-safe and you can find it at Amazon for £8.11.

Baking tray - This one from Kitchen Craft is designed with perforated holes, which spread heat more evenly, while allowing any excess moisture to escape. Perfect for avoiding sogginess. Get it at Amazon for £9.99.

Tips

Kids will love helping you weigh and measure the ingredients, then mix them all together and roll into balls. Cooking with kids is a great way to help them learn about food, and teach them skills that will stand them in good stead throughout their lives!

For softer biscuits, take out after 7 minutes. For a crunchier biscuit, keep in for up to 15 minutes!

Variations

For a real luxury treat, try dipping half of each biscuit in melted chocolate - decadent!

You could also try adding a little cinnamon into the mix, for a deliciously spicy cookie.

For oat and raisin biscuits, just stir a handful of raisins into the dough.

I love these, but my son finds them 'boring'. I tried adding some raisins to my last batch, and he seemed to enjoy them a bit more.

These biscuits are divine. I modified it slightly by adding 100g of soaked raisins, a tablespoon of ground almonds and a teaspoon of ginger & baking for 20 mins. Coat the base of the biscuit in dark chocolate once cooled & leave to set. Gorgeous!

  • Guest

Delicious biscuits, reminiscent of a Hob nob. I found the quantity made 16 medium sized cookies. Very easy to make and my grandson will love them.

  • Guest

very quick and easy to make needed more syrup in.

  • julie k(299)

  • Guest

My mixture was a little too dry so had to use a little extra honey but they were delicious will be making them again real soon

  • Guest

They are the best recipe i have ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Guest

Have just made these fabulous biscuits and am off to make more with year 6 in local primary, they are so easy and very yummy -Tim

  • Guest

Have just made these - yummy -found recipe foolproof, which is good as I normally find biscuits challenging! Nice smallish size too - perfect for my 4 year old's lunchbox, and a nice change from flapjack!

  • Guest

:( just went to make these and haven no plain flour! I guess I'll make them next week.

  • julie k(299)

I love this recipe and make them every week. Very easy to do and especially tasty dipped in chocolate!

  • Guest

We make these all the time as they are so quick and taste yummy! I never bother with the bicarb but I do add 1 tbsp milk to the melting butter they turn out like thin flapjacks. They work well with honey if you have no syrup and I have used soft brown sugar and caster sugar and they always work out fine! Great with tiny bits of chopped dried apricots or other fruits too.

  • Mrs S(48)

just made these with my 2 year old dd....yum! Only thing i found was my mixture was too dry to make into balls so i added some more syrup (prob about 2 tablespoons more thanks to my dd lol) they are also rather large 'balls' (again thanks to my helper who really enjoyed getting her hands in the mixture and making these) they took a bit longer to cook i think with the extra syrup and when they came out they werent particularly crunchy are they meant to be lol? they are soft and sort of gooey (not oozing though) and very tatsy - tasted like flapjacks! we will be making them again as so simple and have all the ingredients in the cupboard but next time wont use quite so much syrup lol. oh and i will make them smaller too (i got 12 from my mixture so will half them in size) my dd thinks they are 'delicious' though

  • Guest

Just baked these with my 3 year old, delicious. Quick and easy which allowed my lo to do most of the creating whilst we spent quailty time together, which is golden when theres a newborn sibling :)

  • julie k(299)

These biscuits are delicious! so easy to make and you can add things to them if you want to. I too found they were cooked after about 10 mins. Definitely a firm favourite in my house!!

  • Guest

Fantastic tasting and easy to make. I took mine out well before the 20 mins cooking time was up as they looked brown though.

  • Guest

Yummy! definetly add some more golden syrup! like even tastier hob nobs x

  • Guest

Made these yesterday and they are gorgeous! Also i added a touch of cinnemon to them which made them extra tasty :) and christmassy :) x

  • Guest

We love these and they never last long. I do use less sugsr than what the recipe says and honey instead of golden syrup-they always turn out lovely.

  • Guest

Just made these with my 2 year old boy and he had a whale of a time. They're still in the oven and can't wait to try them. I agree they did need a little more syrup to stick better but very easy abs dun to make!

  • Guest

Just made a plain batch and a batch using Dorset Cereals cranberry and raspberry fruity porridge, wow!!

  • Guest

Fantastic recipe, easy to make even with a little one helping! Taste amazing every time I have made them with the exception of the time I forgot the bicarbonate of soda (rock hard, lol). Enjoy.

  • Guest

me and my 2 year old son just made these. he enjoyed mixing all the ingredients but i found when i was rolling them the mixture didnt seem sticky enough and kept falling apart. i used the correct quantities so maybe a little more syrup is needed. will try this next time we make them. i managed to get 12 biscuits out of this recipe not 24. theyre in the oven now. fingers crossed x

  • Guest

hi, as i have seen with other recipes, i thought i would be able to subsititute the golden syrup for the honey. however, this left the mixture 2 dry to shape properly! the biscuit mix tasted nice uncooked & would make a good crumble topping. fingers crossed 4 the biscuits lol!

  • Guest

OMG I made theses 2day, i LOVE them i really cant stop eating them. Thanks for sharing this x

  • Guest

This is my fav biscuit recipe. I add raisins/other dried fruit and I drizzle dark choc over the top....they don't last long!!

  • Lauryn S(2)

i add raisins and cinnamon to this recipe but couldnt imagine making 24 out of it! i manage about 8 cookies

  • Guest

These are absolutley delicious!!! So easy to make (and fun too) We've just made a batch and eaten one warm from the oven yummy!!! One thing i will will say though is that they are very sweet so you could easily reduce the sugar in them without affecting the taste!

  • Guest

Delicious my 19 month old enjoyed 'mixy mixing' these and now she is enjoying eating one. x x

  • Guest

Thank u very much for the recipe. My 19ms baby love it!

  • Guest

These are soooo delicious! I swapped out the golden syrup for honey in the second batch I made. They never seem to last long and have all the family begging me to make them!

  • Guest

just made these biscuits and waiting for them to come out of the oven...kettle on the boil... they will taste great with a cup of tea!!

  • Guest

Just made these with my 18month old he thought it was rather tasty mixture before it went in the oven!!

  • Izzy F

They were gorgeous! Made them 'flapjack style'. Only thing I'd say is they were a bit too sweet so I will reduce the amount of sugar next time. Thanks for the great recipe!

  • Guest

To make a nice size small biscuit I speparated the mixture into 12 balls and cooked for about 10 mins. Cooking for 20 mins would have burned them. Very tasty though, thanks for the recipe! Santa will be pleased!

  • Guest

Really yummy they go down a treat in my house have just made another batch and put cinnamon in them for a more christmassy feel :)

  • Guest

i love making these, they are yummy. I double the mixture, add a tad more butter and lessen the sugar. then instead of roling each individual biscuit, i spread the mixture out onto a baking tray(with sides) then cut into pieces when cooked, they turn out like mini flapjacks and it is a lot easier.

  • Guest

I made these cookies and my 2 year old and my hubby ate them all. They were yummy. Thanks a lot for posting up this recipe. Ith helps a lot as my son has both dairy and egg allergies.

  • Guest

I made these biscuits for a bake sale and they went down really well, they are easy to make and taste wonderful! now I will try and make them with the kids. brilliant recipe!

  • Guest

I just made these for my 2 and 5 year old and they absolutely loved them. I think I'll be making these tasty biscuits quite regularly now!!

  • Guest

I've just made these with my 4 year old for the first time and they were yummy. We've been sitting in the kitchen eating them whilst they're still warm from the oven, drinking cold milk!

  • Guest

made these a couple of times now with my girls (3 1/2)and they are delicious and very easy. They cook very quickly and 6 or 7 minutes was enough in my oven.

  • Guest

I made these and ended making another batch! They went down well yum :)

  • Sarah B(1828)

"Mmmm...Yummy" said my 20month old. I take that as confirmation that these biscuits went down a treat with my 2 children. We made these today. My 3.5 year old was very involved in the prep - Not forgetting constantly watching the biscuits cook in the oven. This is a very easy recipe and the results are fab. Thank you for posting it!

  • Guest

Just made a batch of these yummy biscuits. So easy to make and agree with other comments 15 mins max. xx

  • Guest

absolutly delicious even the uncooked mixture is lol and when cooked even more so just need to remember iv made them for my twins lol not me

  • Guest

Just made these biscuits, very delicious. I read the other posts and reduced cooking time to 15 mins. Were perfect. My family love them so im sure they wont last long. I found I only got 12 cookies from the mix.

  • Guest

Just made these with children i mind after school. So easy and a massive hit with all the children.Even the fussy ones.

  • Guest

I have just made my second batch of these yummy biscuits, they have been very popular with my family. I made double the amount as they dont last long in our house and maximum cooking time is deffinatly 15 mins, mine were well cooked by then. Anne x

  • Guest

mmmm! just made these and they came out lovely! i added a tbsp of cocoa powder to them. will def make again. thanks for recipe.

  • Guest

I made these with my 3 & 5 year olds. We added raisins & used less sugar than the recipe suggested. They are really lovely, but I baked the first batch for 20 mins & they were on the cusp of being burnt. Even doing the second batch for only 15 mins had them rather on the well done side. I'll def make them again, but reduce the time of cooking.

  • Guest

oh these are so good,, make double the mix cos they wont last long,, the kids arent home from school yet, and i have had two as soon as they came out of the oven.,, note to self,, DO NOT EAT THEM ALL !

  • Guest

So easy to cook with ingredients that tend to be in the cupborads. The children loved making them almost as much as they enjoyed eating them, thank you. X

  • Guest

I've only managed to get 12 balls out of my mixture! They were very easy to make, 2 of my boys aged 2 and 4 loved helping me stir it all together. They are currently sat in front of the cooker with the internal light on watching them cook!

  • Guest

Just made these with my 3 yr old.....DELISH!!!! Sweet and crunchy - just how i like my biscuits!! :O) I added some dried coconut aswell. Perfect for my sons lunchbox.... Will def be making again and again and again!!!

  • Guest

Great - really quick and easy. I only managed to get 17 out of my mixture, maybe my 'balls' were too large ! I have added chopped up soured cherries (left over from Xams cake making) so hopefully will taste ok - will try with chopped apricots next - Just waiting for them to cool down before we dig in (hang the diet - they have oats in afterall !!)

  • Guest

Yummy and my kids love making them. I add chopped up dried apricots and raisins. Sam K 7/9/09

  • Guest

Fab! Made these today with my 4 year old, really easy. Added a little cinammon to the mixture, yum!

  • Guest

I made these with my children,2 and 3 yrs, and we added raisins and a tad more butter to keep the mixture moist. Delicious!

  • Guest

I just made these biscuits and they were brilliant!! Really easy to make and worked so well. I love how they were small biscuits as great for my 2yr old son and me!! Great to freeze as well, so always on tap!!

  • Guest

We've made these with sultanas (my daughter's favorite thing) and tried with ground ginger to make really crunchy ginger nut biscuits. Really good recipe

  • Guest

mmmm just made theese with my ds (6) well he did most of it except the hot bits! they are really nice a bit like hob nobs but softer i will definately be making theese again.

  • Guest

I have just tried to make these and the mixture was quite soft. Certainly not hard enough to make into a bowl. When they were cooked the mixture had spread flat and blended all over the tin! It tasted absolutley lovely but not how it should have been. Does anyone know where I went wrong?!!

  • Guest

My son (aged 4) and I loved making (and eating) these!!

  • Guest

THESE ARE DELICIOUS!!! Made these for 8 of my hubbys paranormal investigation team...They went down a storm, had to give everyone the recipe!!!!

  • Rebecca R(91)

What a great, simple, quick and tasty treat for adults and kids! I found I had all those ingredients in my cupboard already, so there was no need to go out and buy anything extra. I used wholemeal flour instead of white, not sure how that compares, but they were delicious.

  • Wendy D(4)

I have made these twice in three days! The first batch lasted less than 24 hours; the second batch only lasted one sitting (gobbled up by 4 adults and 2 children)!!! Absolutely delicious and a lovely caramelised flavour, great with a cup of tea or coffee. Simple and brilliant recipe, thank you.

  • Guest

They were very moreish (too moreish!!). Mine only took 15 mins to cook.

  • Guest

Thank you for this recipe. My LO is allergic to eggs so it was great to have a recipe that does not involve eggs and isn't rice krispie cakes -am fed up of those lol

  • Guest

my 2 year old son enjoyed making and eating these and so did the whole family they where easy for him to make and taste great thanks for this recipe

  • Guest

I've just made these with my girls today and they are lovely, really simple to make and taste great. We used white sugar and put a little less than advised in. Perfect with a cuppa!

  • Guest

I just made a batch of these with my 3 year old and they are nearlly gone already! Great recipe.. thinking about putting raisins in next time too ;)

  • Guest

Chava, I reckon you've done the right thing. Ours are in the oven now with a bit less sugar, following your example, and honey instead of syrup (not sure that's really much healthier - it just sounds it - more 'natural' lol). They smell good! I've often reduced the amount of sugar suggested in cake and biscuit recipes and they've always turned out just fine.

  • Guest

Am I being too health conscious here? I have made them with my 21 months old and I think they are really too sweet. I don't like giving him lots of sweet things as he will discover chocolate and sweets soon enough. The recipe is very easy and he loved squashing the balls down a little before they went in the oven so we both had great fun. But I have actually made a second batch with loads less sugar after he went to bed. They were a slightly different consistency but he absolutely loved them and shared them with his friends who all seem to agree that they were yummy ;-) Chava

  • Guest

I have a 2yr old and he loves to help in the kitchen. This was a very fast and easy recipe, that could hold his attention. I was really surprised by the lovely taste, they didn't last long in our house.

  • Guest

Just made these - they are really lush! Thanks for the recipe.

  • Guest

great to do for friends coming for lunch, especially when one is allergic to egg. Adding 3 chocolate chips turn these into chocolate chip cookies and therefore "acceptable" to those who have to have chocolate!

  • Guest

These are so easy to make and delicious - I have even been known to make them late at night to sort out my sweet tooth cravings! Try throwing in some sultanas to the mix too.
