Leah Hazard is a serving NHS midwife in Scotland currently working in a Triage dept where she answers queries, assesses women in labour and manages obstetric emergencies.

Having studied at Harvard, she left a career in television to pursue her lifelong interest in women’s health after the birth of her first daughter.

Leah found her own experience of childbirth difficult and nothing like she'd expected. When she began to find her job in television less and less fulfilling, the idea of making a difference to women during pregnancy and birth became increasingly compelling.

After packing up her TV career, Leah worked for six years as a doula, supporting women in pregnancy and attending numerous births in homes and hospitals across the country.

The birth of Leah’s second daughter prompted Leah to make the leap into midwifery.

Since qualifying, she has worked in a variety of clinical areas within the NHS maternity services, including antenatal clinics, triage units and labour wards.

She's now delivered 'into the hundreds' of babies and has been qualified as a midwife for six years.

Leah has recently written her latest book, the Sunday Times bestselling memoir Hard Pushed: A Midwife’s Story, (hardback, ebook and audiobook Hutchinson; paperback coming from Arrow in Feb 2020) about her experiences as a midwife.
