Make a DIY version of Nando's beloved macho peas side dish in just 10 minutes

Preparation

  • 400g frozen peas
  • Water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter (or dairy-free butter as a vegan alternative)
  • 3-4 sprigs fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2-3 sprigs mint, finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 good pinches of dried red chilli flakes
  1. Add the frozen peas and water to a large saucepan. Bring to the boil, then simmer until the peas are tender.
  2. Drain the peas, then return the drained peas to the pan. Stir in the olive oil and butter.
  3. Stir in the herbs. Sprinkle sea salt and chilli flakes on top to serve.

Variations

You can always use tinned peas instead of frozen peas if you prefer. However, frozen peas retain more of the vitamins, and are less likely to go mushy, so we recommend them for best results.

Similarly, using fresh herbs gives a much better flavour than dried herbs, but you could always try the latter in a pinch!

If making this dish for kids, you might want to add a bit less chilli flakes. You can always divide the peas into separate bowls and add more chilli flakes to the grown-ups portions.
