TOWIE star Lucy Mecklenburgh has been trolled on social media for kissing her baby daughter on the lips.

The reality TV star, 30, who has recently given birth to a baby daughter with partner Ryan Thomas, 37, took to Instagram to share a cute photo of her kissing her daughter on the lips, captioning the photo:

'My dream girl 💕🥰.'

However, some fans spoke out on the affectionate moment, sharing their thoughts on kissing a newborn baby.

One fan pleaded with Lucy:

'Please don't kiss a newborn on the lips,' they said.

Another agreed:

'Yup. Not even about criticising a new mum at all, love Lucy. Makes me cringe when I see any parent doing this 😢.'

Others were quick to point out that kissing a newborn can be dangerous for young babies, if the adult has a cold sore or herpes.

'Yes!! It’s heart breaking watching your 8 day old baby having to have bloods and viral antibiotics due to an illness through close face contact! Kissing a head is one thing, but dr told me should NEVER kiss on face or hands-due to going in mouth. RSV/coldsores can cause SERIOUS illness in them.'

And while some pointed out the risks, others defended Lucy.

'Please don’t tell a mum what to do with her own baby 👍🏻,' said one.

A second commented:

'It's the babies own mother kissing her not a random stranger as long as she doesn't have cold sores and isn't unwell there is no reason why she can't kiss her own baby!! People need to get a life honestly 🙄.'

The NHS website states that babies can be susceptible to neonatal herpes, also known as herpes in a baby, if they come into contact with someone with a cold sore or herpes.

It can be very serious for a young baby, whose immune system has not yet fully developed to be able to fight off the virus.

However, it's rare for this to happen and, according to the NHS, can be easily prevented by not kissing a baby 'if you have a cold sore to reduce the risk of spreading infection.'

Lucy, who also shares Roman, 2, with Ryan, posted some sweet Instagram stories of the family celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee over the weekend, along with Ryan's 13-year-old daughter, Scarlett. And Ryan posted this cute family photo ...

Lucy's not the only celeb to be criticised for kissing their child on the lips. Fellow TOWIE star Sam Faiers was also trolled for kissing her two-year-old son Paul on the lips back in 2018 and calling him her 'lover'.

At the time, commenters wrote that it was 'wrong' and questioned her use of the word lover.

A follower wrote:

'Why would you even think lover? If anything it's kisses with my love?'
