How to make paper mache bowls

1. Cover a bowl with cling film. This is so you can easily remove your paper mache bowl later on.
2. Mix up some PVA glue with water (you can also use wallpaper paste). Tear up small pieces of newspaper and start gluing them to the upside down bowl, overlapping each piece as you go and making sure you completely cover each with glue. It's important not to leave any gaps.
3. Carry on covering the whole bowl with strips of newspaper and add about two or three layers (or more if you have time). The more layers you add, the stronger your finished bowl will be.
4. Leave your bowl to dry overnight. When it is completely dry carefully peel it free and take off the cling film.
5. Paint your bowl in any way you choose and add a coat of varnish to make it shiny and durable.

You could even add a final layer or two of tissue paper - this gives a lovely colourful finish to your bowls.
