Here is a quick and easy way to make a gorgeous no sew cape. This would be perfect for little Red Riding Hood or, if you use ice blue material, Anna from Frozen – ideal for World Book Day or dressing-up fun.

How to make your no sew Red Riding Hood cape

1. Measure a length of red fabric to the preferred length of your cloak and fold in half, lengthways. Then cut another smaller piece of fabric for the hood. Again fold in half lengthways.

2. Take the smaller piece and, using fabric glue, stick one seam down. This glued seam will be the back seam of the hood.

3. Start with the cape and fold over about an inch of fabric at the bottom. Using scissors make a small cut 1cm in from the edge and then make cuts every 2cm all the way along the folded edge (as shown).

Now fold over an inch from the bottom of the hood and make the same cuts all the way along the folded edge. Now you just need to use ribbon to join the hood to the cape with a weave.

4. Open the hood and find the glued seam. Take red ribbon and thread it through the holes either side of the seam as shown (we used green ribbon to make it clearer in our photo).

5. Now line up the holes you made in your cape and thread your ribbon down through the two centre holes, so the hood and the cape join.

6. Keep threading your ribbon up and down – through one of the holes in the hood and then down through one of the matching holes in the cape.

You're basically weaving the ribbon up and down and along the cape to join the two pieces of fabric together.

Pull all the weaves tight and you'll end up with a beautiful hooded cape.

You can make your cape in any colour – we made this one for a Little Red Riding Hood costume but it would also make a nice Anna from Frozen cape in ice blue, or in black it could be a robe for a Harry Potter character or Dracula's cape.

To complete Little Red Riding Hood's costume add a vintage style dress, tights and dolly shoes and a basket filled with food for Grandma.
