Morning everyone, found out this morning that im pg, due 8th January. Got 3 kids already 2 x 13 year olds and a 5 year old. Ill be 38 when baby is due which fills me with absolute dread, my parents were always older then my friends and i vowed never to have kids in my 30s!

Does anyone have any positive experiences? Especially with big age gaps between kids x

Hi, congratulations to begin with! You're going to be absolutely fine. I had my daughter at 38 and I already had 2 children aged 11 and 8. I was also a single parent and managed absolutely fine. The older 2 were fantastic with her. In fact I enjoyed it more because I was older as I had more experience. Still had loads of energy as 38 isn't actually old. She was diagnosed with Autism 3 years ago and ADHD 5 years ago. Shes 12 now. Love her to bits, yes there are challenges, but I would never change her. I also have a 4 year old granddaughter now too. Love the family dynamics of having older siblings for her and she has a really close bond with her sister who is 21. It will be lovely, don't worry!!

Firstly; huge congratulations!

I had my 1st baby 6 months ago at 34. I'm 35 next week!

My husband has just turned 48 with a 21 year who lives with us.

I personally have no previous experience of having my own child with a large age gap but my husband says although he was concerned when I first found out we were expecting, having a baby in his 40s is a far better experience than it was in his 20s.

He is more patient and has more time.

His older son dotes on the baby and is a massive help.

The age gap isn't a problem at all. My stepson already has big plans for the baby and can't wait for him to walk so he can take him to play football or go to the park.

My midwife told me she has more people on her caseload having babies in their 30s and 40s now than ever before.

In all honesty, I'm pleased I had a baby in my 30s. I'm more chilled and certainly don't feel like I'm missing out on anything having a baby when all my friend have teenagers. I think I am also more confident taking the baby places than I would have been in my late teen/ early twenties.

Good luck with the pregnancy and enjoy.

I've just turned 41 and my youngest just turned 2 last weekend. Do not overthink your age it's all but a number. I also have two older a 20 year old and a 17 year old who will be 18 in August. I've found this time round so.much easier and enjoyable. I hope your worries ease. My energy levels are pretty much same as they were 10 years ago. I've just come in from outside with my little one where we were sitting in grass making daisy chains. Your feelings are natural but trust me you will be fine.

Wow ok, I think you need to calm down a bit! 38 isn't old? I had my first at 31, im now nearly 35 and haven't had a other yet but hope to! 30s is a brilliant time to have yours kids. Try and enjoy it and think of the positives!! I know so many people having kids in late 30s, it's pretty normal these days...

Congratulations! I had my daughter on my 42nd birthday (she's now 12) and whilst I have always been one of the oldest mums in the group, I feel and have been told I look and come across younger - have never found age to be a problem. Embrace it and enjoy with all the experience age has afforded you.

Yes I had three kids got remarried and he had two teenagers that lived with us then fell pregnant a year after we got married at age of 38. We now have a 12/13 year old boy n I'm now 51. It wasn't as easy as when I was younger but don't regret it trouble is he is spoilt because all siblings and us spoilt our last little one lol. Your kids are old enough to embrace a little one and help too without the jealousy I'm sure you will enjoy it but you will be permanently knackered lol.

I was 39 and 43, when my two arrived. Trouble free pregnancies, and I think being that bit older gives you more life experience to draw on. Maybe my energy levels are not that if a twenty year old, but what you lose in some aspects you gain in others. Just try to relax and ā€˜go with the flowā€™, thatā€™s what I did. Good luck, and congratulations šŸ„³

Hi Lindsey,

First of all congratulations and wish you best of luckā˜ŗļø. Iam 39 and had baby girl last year at 38. Now I am a mum of 3,feel really happy and blessed. My older ones are 12 and 13. This little one came as a surprise and its the most beautiful thing that ever happened. I know the age difference of my other children and starting all over again its hard work but its all worth it. I am really loving and enjoying it. My older ones a son and daughter help me a lot and they are enjoying the baby too, as there was only a year age gap between them, so a little baby in the family is a treat for everyone. Just trust the timings, what is meant to be is meant to be:))

Wow. Iā€™m 42 now and I couldnā€™t imagine my body being up to carrying a baby now. I get stiff from sitting in the car for too long! Lol. Iā€™m the other end of the scale I had my sons early and theyā€™re grown men now so maybe I knackered my body by doing it so young!

Itā€™s different strokes for different folks I think. I know when I met my partner six years ago we considered him getting a reversal of his vasectomy and trying despite him being 50 at the time and having his own kids, but we decided against it in the end. I donā€™t think thereā€™s any right or wrong age tbh. Good luck whatever you decide to do!
