  • 300g strong plain flour
  • 200ml water
  • 1 tsp fast action dried yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

The sauce

  • tomato puree or passata
  • dried mixed herbs (oregano or fresh chopped basil)
  • cheese (cheddar, mozzarella... whatever you fancy! ), grated

Scone base

  1. Rub the flour and butter together until they resemble breadcrumbs

  3. Divide the dough into 2 pieces, or 4 pieces if you want smaller pizzas, and pat out into rounds - place on greased baking sheets

Traditional base

  2. Divide the dough into 2 pieces, or 4 pieces if you want smaller pizzas, and pat out into rounds - place on greased baking sheets

The topping

  1. Spread tomato puree or tomato ketchup over the pizza bases, sprinkle with the herbs
  2. Top with grated cheese and get your children to decorate with whatever toppings you have in the fridge
  3. Bake in a preheated oven 200'C/Gas mark 6 15-20 minutes if using a scone or dough base, until golden brown

You can use a homemade vegetable puree instead of tomato paste or passata as a sneaky way of getting fussy eaters to eat veggies. Also you can use up any savoury baby food jars or pouches you might have leftover from weaning days, they make a tasty base to add toppings to. My daughter particularly loves a pizza made from a little jar of spaghetti bolognaise baby food topped with a little cheese.

If only pizza was an easy option for me - My child is so fussy she doesnt like tomato sauce or any vegetable, fruit or meat? I have another child who just wants cheese and ham. Grr. I make my own pizza dough once a week and we have cheese and garlic with humous on side or cheese and ham. Best I can do.

Just made this tonight and I am so pleased with the outcome. It was delicious, my 22 month-old even had a try and liked it too. I will definitely be making this a regular at mealtimes. Fantastic xx

  • Guest

Made these tonight using tortilla wraps as bases, kids loved getting stuck in and creating their pizzas, the verdict on their cooking ...... A fab from Erin and from Jack - sensational!

  • Guest

I'm a nanny to 3 kids of all different ages so thinking of using this recipe for a rainy day afternoon activity. This may sound like a silly question but is it safe to use tortilla wraps? Just dont want the kids to be disappointed if they come out wrong or burnt :)

Just made the dough base for my little ones, they loved it, better than the pizza shop apparently lol. We have also had the scone base too in the past and that was great for a quick pizza

  • Guest

Do you have a measuring jug? If so 1 cup is 250ml. If not, 1 cup of flour weighs 120g-150g. HTH

  • Guest

For parties I use biscuit cutters to create themed pizza's. Yesterday I bought some cheap ready made pizza bases and then cut them out using some cheap halloween cutters. the children then decotaed them themselves

My daughter is six and when her friend came around for tea, they made their own pizzas using french stick cut lengthways... This is a really cheap option as it made 8 !!

  • Guest

My son had his friend round for tea and they were disappointed to hear that Pizza was not on the menu, so I said maybe we could make them and I looked on here!! We made the scone base and had so much fun - the boys loved making and eating them - fab recipe thanks x

It's only 1tsp of sugar!!!!! And yes, it's to feed the yeast! Good recipes. We make the scone base lots and my kids love it and I don't think it's bad either!

  • Guest

Laura C, the sugar used in pizza dough is to feed the yeast to allow it to make the dough rise. Good recipies netmums, thank you!

  • Guest

we do this with tortillas, tomatoes puree and cheese. let kids do it as its so easy, top with whatever they choose. simple and yummy! takes 2 mins to make

  • Guest

We made these today with the scone base for our 3 ds's and grandma and grandad - lovely and the two older boys enjoyed adding their toppings. Very easy to make and I had all the ingredients in the cupboard! We'll be making again. We used a few spoonfuls of a tomato pasta sauce on our pizza bases. Yummy!

  • Guest

If your little one is very young a bread roll cut in half also does just as well for a base and they will love putting lots of toppings on! We have just done this, 1 1/2 year old included and made funny faces to make daddy laugh! Wow they are so creative and have done a fantastic job! Well done kids your daddy is gonna be smiling all day when he gets these for his tea.

this is a great pizza has my child is a very fuss eat and she like this and like to make it thank for it

  • Sarah W(1971)

Ellen - cook all together, no need to bake base first, just load up toppings on top of dough and top with cheese and you're done!

  • Guest

just about to make me these with my daughter the scone based one do you cook the base first or cook it altogther if you want to melt the chesse???

  • Sarah W(1971)

Scone base delicious and so easy - am going to think twice about buying pizzas from now on! Only thing was that it stuck quite a bit to the baking tray. Think my dough might have been a bit too wet - will try preheating baking tray and greasing more next time to see if this improves it, but otherwise lovely. We had ham, mushrooms, cheddar and mozzarella pearls plus tomato passata and basil on base...yum!

  • Guest

made the scone base,(it was so easy to make) and let the kids choose from a variety of toppings they loved it, great recipe!x

Made pizza last night. My daughter age 3.5 has been fussy since the first rejected mouthful of baby rice. She has always refused pizza before but ate all hers up! We made the pizzas with her using the base recipe (self raising flour one) so she was able to roll the pastry then decorate hers with ham, sweetcorn & cheese which she does already eat. Fab idea and flushed with success going to try a netmums cowboy chicken recipe tomorrow!

  • Guest

I have started making my own pizza bases after trying out the recipe in the Netmums 'feeding kids' book and discovering how easy it is! I now have a stash of pizza base dough in the freezer waiting to be used. My son loves creating his own pizzas and he seems to eat any veg out there if he has put on top of his own pizza! I also used the recipe as base for our own 'posh' pizza last night. I added caramelised onion, goats cheese, sun-dried tomatoes (from a jar) and black olives halved. Was scrummy and went down very well with the hubby.

I made this today with my two children. We used the recipe and put it in our breadmaker on the dough setting. They really enjoyed rolling out the dough and putting the tomatoe and cheese on top. My little girl has never eaten as much pizza, they both really enjoyed eating the pizza it tasted so good - excellent recipe and really easy to do, will definitely be making these again they are so much better than shop bought pizzas.

made this today using the traditional bread base. Fantastic. My three year old really enjoyed helping out and a great way of teaching her about vegetables. We made the base in the morning(flour everywhere). I made a tomatoe base sauce using 1 red pepper diced, half an onion diced, tomatoe puree-about 2-3 tblespoons, half of a tomatoe-squeezed the juice out into the sauce then diced and added and finally added two tblespoons of water. We then used a base of tomatoe puree with the sauce on top then added mild chedder and lots of veg such as courgette. For my daughter's pizza we added ham but for mine I added chorizo sausage. We made two big one's and a smaller one. Next time I'm going to make a thinner pizza base but don't think I will buy ready made again as this was well easy and you know whats in them. X

Being a total nightmare in the kitchen please excuse my ignorance. but if you make these with the self raising flour base caN YOU FREEZE THEM & THEN COOK THEM FROM FROZEN? (oops sorry about caps)

  • Guest

The kids and I made pizza at the wkend. We used tomato base with some herbs and grated cheese. We then added tomatoes, mushrooms, ham and chicken tika and they were gone in no time. Very tasty and easy to make.

  • Guest

we love HM pizza in our family. we also use HM garlic butter for a base instead of tomato.

  • Guest

The self raising flour pizza dough is really not very nice and also I feel it has way too much fat in it. The more traditional one is way better, but I would avoid the sugar for which there is really no need. In any case better than a lot of the stuff one can buy in the stores... at least you know what's in it!

  • Guest

Mmmm, barbaque sauce is also a tasty base topping with your ingredients on top

  • Guest

Made homemade pizza's with co-op plain naan bread, cheese, onion, peppers and tomato ketchup for the base. My 3 year old son loved it and ate every bit!

  • Guest

hi-my daughter cant eat tomatoes/anything tomato based-makes her eczema really bad. So i use green pesto on the base- its much nicer i think anyway-gives pizzas a lovely taste! i havent put tomato sauce/puree on my pizzas for years. one for the grown up-older kids... pesto on base, top with sliced tomatoes the sliced goats cheese! Yummy!

i made french stick pizzas with my 2 year old dd yesterday. i cooked 2 tesco value baggettes part baked bagettes in the oven. we then added, tomatotoes (with tom puree)and herbs, cheese, ham, red onions and parmesan and grilled them. but the only problem is we have now realised my dd is allergic to tomatoes and brings her eczema up in a really bad way as soon as she touches them :-( :-(

I made the scone based pizza's last night. They were very simple to make - coming from a 'non cook'. Am going to try and make the more tradditional base next time. But both my 4 yrd old 8 month old and 25 yrd old partner and myself really enjoyed the pizza's! I used tomatoe puree for ase with mixed herbs, cheese topping with sweetcorn and chopped up hot dog sausages with black pepper and a lil oil! We normally have a £7 take out pizza friday nights so this was fanastic. It was tastier, healthier and cheaper!!! Were all winners (except for the take away company haha)
