An easy party treat that's tasty and sweet...
- Prep Time 2 hrs 10 mins
- Difficulty Level Easy
Preparation
- Total Time 2 hrs 10 mins
- Preparation Time 2 hrs 10 mins
- 130g jelly (approximately 1 pack)
- 225g strawberries (you could use blackberries, mixed berries or tinned fruit if preferred)
- 160g trifle sponges (or Victoria sponge cake)
- 4 tbsp orange juice
- 600ml custard (or yoghurt or whipped cream)
- chocolate sprinkles (optional)
- Make up a packet of strawberry jelly and leave to cool (out of children's reach)
- Older children will be able do the rest of this with a little help and supervision
- Put some sponge fingers or trifle sponges in the bottom of a large bowl
- Drizzle a few tablespoons of orange juice over the sponges
- Chop or slice the strawberries and chuck them into the bowl (on top of the sponges)
- When the jelly is cool, but not set, pour over the fruit and leave in the fridge to set
- When the jelly is set, top with custard, cream or strawberry yoghurt
- Add sprinkles if desired
You will need
Trifle bowl - We really like this 20cm, footed one. It's both practical and stylish and you can get it at Amazon for £21.45.
Variations
- Making it without jelly! According to my Granny, traditional trifles didn't include jelly so if you or your children aren't keen on jelly, make it without, use a layer of custard over the strawberries and then top with whipped cream
- Try making this with different fruits and different flavours of jelly - there's plenty of experimenting to be done!
