Person lassoing the moon

As parents, we all want to see our kids’ dreams come true – but often, making them happen is a tall order. Here's how to help your children to dream big …

Every child is born with an imagination and the wonderful belief that there’s nothing they can’t be or do.

As they get older, children develop their own passions, from drawing and painting to doing science experiments at the kitchen table.

Some of these passions are easy to nurture and support, whether that’s by signing them up for a football team or art club, letting them take ballet lessons, or taking them trainspotting at the weekend.

But other dreams can be trickier to turn into reality, especially as children tend to let their imagination run wild and dream big, rather than being grounded in reality.

Perhaps your child is learning to play the drums at school and dreams of blasting out a solo at Wembley Stadium. Or maybe they’re a keen runner who longs to meet their Olympic track and field hero.

7 ways to help your kids dream big

Fruit Shoot knows every child has their own dream, which is why Fruit Shoot For The Moon gave them the chance to turn whatever that dream might be into reality.

The competition is now closed, but don't worry if you weren't a winner this time. Fruit Shoot will be providing more chances next summer to make your kid's dream come true.

And in the mean time, there’s a lot we can do as parents to encourage our kids to dream big.

 1. Work out where their passions lie. Sometimes, we try to live out our own dreams through our kids, but they’ll never feel fulfilled if you push them to play the violin when they’d rather be rocking an arena on electric guitar.

2. Fuel kids imagination by encouraging them to write about their wildest dreams or draw pictures of their big ideas. This is thought-provoking for parents, too, giving us an insight into what our kids dream of doing.

3. Give them opportunities that tap into their passions. Who knows whether signing your child up for a football team could lead to them playing for a famous club?

4. Talk to them about their dreams and desires. Asking your child what they’d do in the most epic version of their dream is a great way to start a conversation that encourages them to let their imagination run wild.

5. Don’t be afraid of boredom. Having downtime where they’re not constantly entertained will encourage your child to daydream and discover their passions.

6. Write a bucket list together. Ask your child to list all the crazy and creative things they’d like to do, and discuss how you could make their dreams come true, whether they want to be a zookeeper for a day or record their own pop song with friends.

7. Give them lots of praise and encouragement, even if they try something new and don’t succeed. This will build their confidence and resilience, giving them the courage to reach for their dreams.

Meet our girl band

One group of girls who are living out their dreams is up and coming girl band Unperfect.

The four-piece band is on the cusp of huge success, with catchy pop songs that are made for dancing around the bedroom with a hairbrush mic in hand.

Chloe, Siobhan, Soipan and Tiah know just how it feels to reach for your dreams and have been touted as the next Little Mix. That’s why Robinson’s Fruit Shoot has teamed up with Unperfect to show children what can happen if they dare to dream big.

Their new song, recorded exclusively for Fruit Shoot, will inspire your child to embrace their own thing and follow their passions, whatever they might be.

We’ve also helped two kids’ dreams come true by giving them the chance to be involved in Unperfect’s new music video.

Aspiring percussionist Darcy plays drums on the track, while Geneva took to the director’s chair for her first experience of directing a music video.

So why not listen to I'm a Dreamer now? It's the perfect song to inspire your kids (and you!).
