My 1 year old is suddenly scared of loud talkings, music, baby screaming, sudden phone ringing etc. He has stopped climbing down the bed and sofa. He doesn’t want to go to any one except mom or grandma. Keeps whining with other untill mom or grandma takes him. Babbles quite less than he used too.

Is this normal behavior?

Hello Rene

I am sorry to hear your little one is not his normal self. Is this new behaviour or has this been going on for a while?

I wonder do you think he may be poorly and just not feeling well so is behaving like this? If he is trying to fight off an infection it can cause these changes whilst his body tries to recover. Perhaps check his temperature to see if he has a fever perhaps?

Is he eating and drinking OK? These are also very good signs if a child is feeling a little under the weather?

If this behaviour has been going on some time, then it could be that he going through a normal stage of separation anxiety, which can at times make children behave in this way as they try to manage their emotions.

You can read more about it here:

If you really can't think of anything that maybe causing this and you know he is fit and well it maybe worth giving your HV a ring and asking for their support. You son will soon be offered his routine 1 year developmental assessment where you will have protected time to chat about any concerns you may have about your child.

You could ask for this to be booked in sooner rather than later so you can explore what maybe upsetting him in more details.

Please do come back to us again if you'd like more support.

Best wishes
