Cringe words we all used in the '00s
1. Sick
If something was 'sick' it was cool.
2. Bare
This word was used to describe a large quantity, or to replace the word 'very'. For example, 'that's bare annoying' or 'I've got bare love on my Bebo'.
3. Buff
Buff was another word for attractive. For example, 'OMG that guy is so buff'.
4. Neek
Neek was essentially another word for geek.
5. Parr
Parr meant insult. For example 'you got parred' meant 'you got insulted'.
6. Take a chill pill
You'd say this to someone who needed to calm down.
7. 'Whatever McDonald's worker'
The phrase 'whatever' is so '90s, so '00s kids decided to step it up a gear. This was commonly accompanied with a hand gesture, where you'd make a 'w' with your hands, turn it upside-down to make an 'm' and then turn it the right way up. And at the same time, you'd say 'Whatever McDonald's worker'.
8. Awkward turtle
Whenever you found yourself in the midst of an awkward moment, you would interlock your hands, one over the other, and poke your thumbs out and wiggle them.
9. Creps
Creps were another word for trainers. If you got a new pair of trainers there would be 'fresh creps'.
10. BRB
Back in the day when you didn't have constant access to instant messenger, and we used MSN rather than Whatsapp, you would have to leave your computer at some point. Rather than signing off, you could put yourself on busy and tell your friends BRB, which stood for 'be right back'.
11. GTG or G2G
Another one from the MSN era, which meant 'got to go'.
12. Yo
Another way of saying 'hi'.
13. Chav
Chav is now an official word in the Oxford Dictionary - yes, we were THAT influential. The definition says that chav means 'a young lower-class person who displays brash and loutish behaviour and wears real or imitation designer clothes'.
14. LOL
Another great phrase that started on MSN, LOL or 'laugh out loud' is now slowly being replaced by the laughing emoji.
15. Meh
You would use this to show indifference or lack of enthusiasm about something.
16. OMG
An abbreviation for 'oh my God'.
17. LMAO
Yet another MSN term that isn't as widely used as 'LOL', LMAO stood for 'laughing my arse off'. You would use this when you found something to be funnier than your average 'LOL'.
18. Joker
When you called someone a joker, it would mean you found them hilarious, but it could also be used sarcastically.
19. ILY
This one means 'I love you'. It's a pretty lazy way of showing your affections, though!
20. Bbz
A written slang word which is short for 'babes'.
21. ROFL
This one was used when you found something too funny to give it a 'LOL' or 'LMAO'. ROFL meant 'rolling on the floor laughing'.
22. Biatch
This phrase came from the cult movie Mean Girls and is used as another way of calling someone a 'bitch'. However, biatches are usually much cooler and meaner.
23. Buzzin
Buzzin means excited. For example 'mate I'm bear buzzin for lunch'.
24. You got boied
This was another way of telling someone that they were being insulted.
25. Emo
Emos were a subculture of teens in the '00s who enjoyed listening to bands such as Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance. They also dyed their hair black and straightened it with a fringe covering one of their eyes and wore colourful clothes.
26. Cat
Taken from the phrase copy cat and meaning exactly that. However you can be a 'cat' or you can 'cat' something off of someone. It can also mean to steal.
For example: 'You're such a cat for stealing her homework.'
Or: 'I'm going to cat his lunch money.'
27. Am I bovvered?
This phase was taken from comedy sketch show, The Catherine Tate Show.
28. Chirpz
This word was another way of saying 'to make a move on someone'. For example: 'that guy is buff I'm gonna go and chirpz him'.
29. Koolness
Another word taken from Mean Girls, which was a cooler way of saying, well, cool.
30. Butters
If something, or someone, was butters it meant you found it/them unattractive.
31. Peng
This word was used to describe someone or something you found particularly attractive. If someone was peng, they were more than buff. Former The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) star Joey Essex used this one a lot.
