Really tasty idea, BUT definitely need to adjust the recipe!! I did a good teaspoon of all spices and added a pinch of chilli flakes too. Perhaps half teaspoons if you’re cooking for very little ones. Definitely do not need the water (or at least not that much!) - water will completely dull the spices so no wonder it tasted bland to some. Chickpeas will cook fine just in chopped tomatoes. I added some pepper and mushroom to bulk it up a bit

So easy to make, really tasty and nutritious - we are vegetarians and this has become a store cupboard regular.

An excellent ,tasty, quick and easy recipe which is great every time. I agree with adding a little coconut milk which gives it a extra creamy taste which the children love.

This was a great hit with my eldest (teenage) daughter and her friend. One night last week, "mum can Megan stay for tea" - great no problem, Megan is vegetarian, what am I going to make?! Headed to netmums vegetarian section and tadah found this recipe which is essentially made out of store cupboard ingredients and ready in no time! Took on board some of the other member comments and added other bits and pieces and it was delicious, so thanks netmums and netmums members you saved my bacon!

I tried this tonight but added mushrooms, sweet potatoes and a pepper. It was loved by all and I'll make it again!

Tried this receipe and the other one suggested by Harjit (lower down the page)and they were ok I found it too chilli the first time, so made it again using Harjit's formula and it tasted very much the same (except less chilli), but it does need something else though and I don't know what. I will make it again, as it is not a bad dish and it is quite cheap to make, I'll add tom puree as suggested by another mum and see how it goes.

Add a teaspoon of tomato puree to it as well, this will add a bit of depth and flavour to the dish :)

I have just finished eating a bowl of this (I just had it with naan bread). Its filling and pretty tasty. Although I made mine a bit too hot for DD to eat by accident so added in 3 tablespoons of natural yogurt at the end to cool the spice. Will def make again :)

Sorry i tried this last night but was a bit bland for my liking! I could feel the heat in the curry but it was lacking flavour :(

Try this : Heat 1tblspn veg oil and add 1 tspn whole cumin being careful not to burn it. When you smell the cumin aroma add one medium sized onion diced v.small. When onion has caramelised, add 4 cloves of crushed garlic and 1/4 inch ginger and 1 chopped green chilli (to taste). When this has sweat off add one whizzed up tin of tomatoes, 1 tspn tumeric, 1 tspn garam masala and salt to taste. Taste this paste to see if you like it. Then, throw in the soaked chick peas and allow to cook until soft. If you have fresh chick peas that have been soaked overnight, they will cook quicker. Finally, add a generous amount of fresh coriander. Best regards Harjit Sarang

I like to add some red pepper to this, but any colour will do.
