  • 900g stewing steak, chopped
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 1 dss curry powder
  • 1 tsp ginger, ground
  • 1 dss muscavado sugar

  • 425ml beef stock
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  2. Add the chopped carrots and cook for a few more minutes before adding the meat
  3. Add the flour and spices and stir well to coat the meat - cook for a minute or so on a low heat
  4. Pour in the stock, add the rest of the ingredients (except the horseradish) and bring to the boil, mixing well
  5. Put the lid on the casserole dish, put in the oven on gas mark 1-2/130-150'C for 4 -5 hours
  6. When ready to serve, stir in the horseradish cream
  7. Serve with potatoes and vegetables

Tips

You could add root vegetables to vary the recipe and use a mild curry powder so it's not too spicy for the little ones

Variations

  • Serving childrens' portions before adding the horseradish cream
  • Add some chunks of root vegetables to the casserole, before putting in the oven
  • Slow cooker method: coat the meat with flour and spices and brown in a pan (optional), transfer to the slow cooker and add the other ingredients - stir well - cook for 8-10 hours on low

Made this and its absolutely lovely - there won't be any left overs! Don't add the horseradish for the kids as it will make it quite hot for them - it will be nice without it....personally I love it with the horseradish as it gives it a lovely kick!

This recipe is delicious! I did it in the slow cooker and the meat was lovely and tender. I added more horseradish as I like a bit of bite. The only thing is as a personal preference I would add a tad more flour to thicken it more next time x

I left out the horseradish and didnt have muscavado so bunged in a bit of cater sugar but it tastsed great, the kids all loved it which I was really surprised about - the curry powder gave it a lovely flavour without being hot. Am doing it again this week! Cheap too!
