Having a baby isn't just about feeding, nappies, and getting out and about. It's also very much about getting to know each other, and developing that feeling of love.

Of course, for most of us, it happens without us really thinking about it, but every now and then it's nice to just taking ten minutes ... just you and baby ... to get to know each other a little better.

Mirroring

Mirroring something that you can do anywhere at any time, as long as your baby is in the mood!

Whether you have a new baby or a child heading towards the age of 2, try this out and see how you get on ...

FREE NEWBORN NAPPIES

  • Put your baby in a seat facing you - the buggy, car seat, or just catch them while they are sat on a chair if they are older.
  • Sit with your face about three feet away and tell them that you are going to copy them.
  • Now just sit and watch - if baby blinks, you blink, if baby reaches out, you reach out.
  • Watch their facial expressions carefully, and copy the movements.
  • Listen carefully to any sounds they make and copy those too.

Five or 10 minutes will be enough time - time for a gentle kiss and a cuddle, or for a run around if they are a bit older perhaps. How do you feel now? Calm? Contented? Amused? Why not tell them that too!

It is good to do this for just a few minutes each day for a week, just to practice a bit. It's a wonderful way to get to know your baby a bit better - the main thing is that THEY LEAD it - so only copy them.

Why not tell other Netmums how you got on too!
