You will need:

  • Pink vest top or swimming costume
  • 1m green tulle
  • Stick-on jewels and sew-on flowers to decorate (optional).
  • 2m blue tulle
  • Elastic to fit around your child's waist

Three easy steps

1. Measure your child's waist with the elastic (don't pull too tight!) then add 2cm to this measurement and cut to size, using the 2cm overlap to sew it together securely.

Or for speed - leave 10 cm and tie it in a knot.

2. Cut the blue tulle into 4cm-wide strips. Loop each strip over the waistband you've made and attach with a knot in the middle.

Work around the waistband until it's looking full. Then add the green tulle strips over the top.

Tie a length of green tulle around the legs above the knees to pull the skirt into a fishtail shape (keep it above the knees so it's easier to walk, and go to the toilet!).

3. Join the green tulle strips to each other at intervals down the length as shown (either knots, or a couple of stitches should do) then cover each join with a sparkly jewel (optional).
