12 yo first phone call home from school

So after never having any trouble with my son we got our first phone call home from school. He knows he’s in trouble and refuses to talk about it (usually it takes him a day or two) but what do I do? The consequence at school is a detention. I feel there should be something at home too-loss of tech? I know this is about him but I also feel so embarrassed 😞
I have to say it would depend what he has done.
Schools dish out detention for all kinds of things... Some unnecessary like not having a calculator in their bag (we are all human) and tbh I feel that it happens at school and is punished at school and that is it for me.
If it was something that I felt was terrible such as bullying I'd actually punish at home by removing phone/tech?...
