Hi have a child who waiting to be assessed for autism and education special needs. My daughter is 9 half years old. She still can't count or alphabet. She can't right down letters or numbers. When asked. The school said she looks like a prossing disorder and dyslexia. With some sensery issues. The school are trying there best. We have an educational Healthcare plan. But I feel she not improving. She just starting to see she different in education levels.

The question Is when dose it become an issue. as to move to special school?

She so far behind. It upset me. I try my best at home. We do some work. Then do the same work again and it like she never seen it before. I know she will not be ready to move up another year. As she growing more further apart from the class she in. Sigh I just want the best for her.

is that a special needs school or the same school she in already.? Thanks for reading this.

With an EHCP the measure of progress is different and can not be compared with her peers

Ask about her targets, what has been tried and why, what her main barriers to learning are and how do they impact her learning, skills and training of the staff, any involvement of outside providers and advice and help sort, what evidence do they have of progress within levels, do they feel the school is the right place for her, does an opportunity to be dual registered with a SEND school exist? We have children working at age 4 in year 6 who attend several days with other providers who offer different skills and support. That gap with peers may get larger even with the best provision in the world. Do not get despondent but think differently and ask direct questions of sendco about if this is the best place in their view.

Have school applied for an EHCP at all? If they haven't have you spoken to them about that?

If the school have not done it or won't do it then you can start the process yourself as a parent.

You don't need a diagnosis for an EHCP.

Things will only get worse once she reaches senior school age it's very important to start getting things in place as soon as possible if she's that far behind.

Once she has been assessed for an EHCP they will work out if her needs can be met in mainstream or if a special school place is needed.
