Hi all
My (mature) 11 year old daughter (12 in oct) had her first period back in march but has had nothing since.
In June I had to collect her from school early and took her to the doctors because she was complaining of tummy cramps and felt very faint. The doctor said it was nothing to worry about and said it sounds like sh will get another period within the next week, but nothing since march.
Anyone else had this with their daughter?

My dd is the same age. She will also be 12 in october.
Shehad her first period which lasted about a week and then about 6 weeks later she had a very small one which was very light and only for about 2 days. Everyone is different and it can take a long time to get settled into any kind of regular pattern.
My dd has only just started developing small buds and i always thought they came before the periods but i guess not in all cases. Everyone develops different stages at different times i guess.
I dont really have any advice, other than to say that i wouldnt worry too much, just reassure her that it is normal to be very irregular at this stage and encourage her to always carry a small towel or liner around with her just in case.

Ok thanks for your reply.
I guess it's just a matter of waiting for the next period

My daughter started when she just turned 12. Shes 13 this month. I was under the impression that they would be irregular for a while after but unfortunately for her she has had one every month since- sometimes lasting about a week to ten days. She does suffer with tummy aches with it though and has been sent home from school a few times. Sorry no advice as such, just wanted to share my limited experience!

Hi my daughter started her just before her 12th birthday. She was lucky as for a year she had one every month but had no pains ect. Now were about 18 month in and her periods still swap from painfull heavy to light and no pain. I think you just have to go with what your dd says. As for having a peroind then nothing for a long time, this happened to me I had my first one at 11 then nothing for a whole year!

I also believe that it's to do with weight as well, they won't start their periods until 7 1/2 stone. So if she was heavy enough for them to start then lost a little weight??

I wouldn't believe that. I started mine at 11 and must have only been about six stone, maybe lighter

I am not convinced at that and i certainly wouldnt say that my daughter needs to lose weight
She is very slim and athletic. I dont know how much she weighs as we dont have scales at home but i dont imagine she weighs more than 6 stone. I can still pick her up pretty easily when we are playing.

I have girls of just 11 and one of 12 ( 13 in april ) neither have shown any signs as yet although the older one has the boobs now had to buy her proper bras the other week only size 28A so I assume she will soon start getting her periods I bought her some sanatry towels a few weeks ago made by lilets specially for teens they have something called a whisper wrapper she keeps a couple in her school bag as a just in case

Hi,my dd is also 11 and started her periods back in April, she hasn't had one since though but it can take a while for them to settle into a regular cycle,I just make sure my dd has sanitary pads in her bag if she goes out in case of any surprises and I will make sure she has them in school bag

i don't have a daughter, but my best friend does! she started just after she turned 11 and it took a few months before she had another one!

we talk quite openly about these things as my mate has a pet chameleon who turns black when anyone is 'on' no secrets in that house

I don't think she was saying your daughter needs to lose weight ( although that's how I read it at first too). I think she is meaning that if your daughter has lost weight that might be why they are irregular.

The poster was definatly not saying your daughter needs to loose weight just that it might relate to her weight.
