It's easy to reach for the same old snack when you've heard 'I'm hungry' for the millionth time that day.

But with a few ideas in place, you can give hungry kids something yum, fun and healthy ... whether you're out and about with toddlers, packing a snack in their lunchbox or dodging after-school 'hanger'.

Here’s our round-up of nine crowd-pleasing snacks that are nutritious and tasty.

1. Petits Filous No Added Sugar Mess Free Drinking Yogurt

With no added sugar*, the Petits Filous taste your kids love and a sports cap to prevent spills, this all-new snack could quickly become a family favourite …

Petits Filous have only just launched the No Added Sugar Mess Free Drinking Yogurt and it’s already been given the seal of approval by NHS Change4Life.

A source of calcium and vitamin D for helping your child develop healthy bones**, choose from Raspberry & Apple or Banana & Apricot.

With only naturally occurring sugars, and in a bottle that keeps for up to eight hours out of the fridge, what’s not to love.

*Contains naturally occurring sugars

**Calcium and Vitamin D are needed for normal growth and development of bone in children. A varied and balanced diet is important as part of a healthy lifestyle.

2. Popcorn

It’s not just for family movie nights …

Popcorn is super easy to make at home: all you need is butter or oil, popping corn and a large lidded saucepan.

Check out our popcorn recipe here. For a low-sugar version simply leave off the caster sugar, it’s just as moreish without it.

3. Fruit kebabs

Serving up delicious fruit is a simple way to satisfy your child’s sweet tooth. Why not mix things up a bit and make bright fruit kebabs.

Simply thread chunks of fruit onto little skewers and voila, you’ve got a snack your child will love. (And they won’t even give the biscuit tin a second thought!)

4. Oatcakes

Oatcakes can be a source of fibre, which is another nutrient kids need as part of a balanced diet.

Pop a pack in your bag for the school pick up, or have at the ready when snack o'clock hits at home! You can serve them plain or top with hummus, mashed avocado or slices of banana. Yum.

5. Fruit smoothies

Another child-friendly way to serve up fruit for snack time is by blitzing it in a smoothie. Try making with bananas or use frozen berries. They’re much cheaper than buying fresh fruit and just as tasty.

Either add water, fruit juice or for a delicious creamy texture, add Petits Filous. We’ll have one too, please!

While it's a great way to help your child towards their 5-a-day, the NHS recommends limiting fruit or vegetable juices and smoothies to just 150ml a day.

6. Mixed nuts

Looking for after-school snack ideas? Certain nuts, including almonds and cashews, are a source of protein which is an important part of a balanced diet. (The British Nutrition Foundation recommend children have two to three servings of protein every day.)

The NHS recommends not giving children whole nuts before the age of five. So why not chop up a selection of nuts for your child to enjoy.

7. Breadsticks and dips

Help your child develop good eating habits by serving up a range of snack options.

Breadsticks served with a choice of dips will be enough to distract your little one from their usual sweet snack.

8. Cheese and crackers

It’s a simple snack but there’s a reason cheese and crackers have been popular for so long … they’re totally satisfying!

Not only that, cheese has loads of health benefits for kids and contains calcium, protein and vitamins. The NHS recommends giving your child two servings of food made from milk (including cheese and yoghurt) each day.

9. Homemade fruit crisps

With biscuits off the menu, chances are your child will probably ask for their next favourite snack: crisps.

Give them a healthy overhaul by making your own fruit versions. You can try our recipe for apple crisps or search our hub for other homemade crisp recipes.
