My DD is 10 and we both have colds at the moment. Every single time she gets one (and this is her third since Christmas) she throws up all day long for the first day. She has been like it since she was a toddler. It's awful, as you can imagine. Does anyone else have experience of this ? She has dyspraxia, I don't know if that's relevant or not, and can't grasp how to blow her nose. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Thank you x

My daughter throws up too - but she's not dyspraxic.

She's 3 1/2 but since she was a baby, every single bad cold has resulted in her vomiting.  Last night was a real joy as she had had bolognese for supper.

So you're saying this carries on?

I think its just all the mucus sitting in their throats and its the body's way of getting rid of it!

Thanks for your replies xxx

I'm not sure it should carry on this long. I know when they are little that they have glands in their tummies that swell when they have a cold and this can lead to vomiting but should settle down way before now. She hates being sick, obviously, but doesn't 'get' how to blow her nose to get rid of the mucus.

I feel pretty rough today too so we are a right pair ! Both on sofas watching CBeebies xxx

I too am feeling rough but unfortunately am at work (doing a lot obviously!!)

Ok - this is going to sound bizarre but you said your daughter has dyspraxia and doesn't know how to blow her nose and I wondered if getting a nose flute would help. (I am not qualified in anyway, this just occurred to me)

It's an instrument that instead of using your mouth to blow it, you use your nose.  I guess you could use it as a way of practicing blowing through your nose and making it fun at the same time.  She wouldn't have to do it only when she has a cold, she can practice when she's well.  It might be worth a try.

I am 43 and always throw up when I have a cold!
I started my cold on Monday and have felt sick since.
Hubby was not pleased last night as he cooked a recipie from his new Jamie oliver book, just the smell of cooking made me heave and i couldnt eat a bite.

Alice, that's a brill idea ! Why didn't I think of that ? I shall get her one - it's worth a try, isn't it ?

Sarah, I'm sorry that you're poorly at the moment too (you too, Alice x). So you actually throw up when you have a cold ? Maybe my DD just has a poor gag reflex ?

What she 'sicks up' (tmi, sorry !) is very mucous-y ... it's clear (unless like now she was having sips from a cup of tea. We were doing so well and then it all came back up again.).

She's exhausted, bless her

Hello Lisa
I am sorry to hear that both you and your DD are feeling poorly today
Quite often children (and adults) feel nauseous or are actually sick when they come down with a cold, as coughing can often aggravate the mucus which is sitting at the back of the throat.
Have you considered speaking to your GP to check whether the two are related or whether this is a common feature of dyspraxia Lisa?

I hope you both feel better very soon.

Hi Nasreen and thanks.

I think I shall speak to our GP as this is the third time since Christmas she has had a cold and it's the same each time with her being sick. It lasts for most of the day - curiously she had a nap for a couple of hours earlier and didn't wake to be sick then so I can only assume it's not a tummy thing but the mucous irritating her gag reflex ... but I'm no expert

Hey Tracey,

I don’t know why this happens, but just letting you know that you’re not alone which is sometimes all you need to know to make you feel better.

I have 4 kids, ages 6, 4, 2 and 6 weeks and my 4 year old always vomits on the first day of absolutely any virus. Always has.

The only positive for me is that you always know when they have a bug- not just tired/grumpy etc. 😂
