When you’re trying to get pregnant, you expect it to take a few months - giving you time to adjust to the idea of motherhood. But what happens if you get pregnant the moment you start trying?

Around 84% of women conceive within a year. Which means when you start trying for a baby, you expect you’ll have plenty of time for that last big night out with the girls before nine months of no booze.

Except, of course, if you get pregnant straight away and have to spend the night sipping water rather than prosecco.

At least you’ve got an excuse to dodge the Jagerbombs.

Pregnant first time? Cue your OH thinking he’s some kind of fertility god with super sperm. Give the man a medal. No really, he actually thinks he should get one.

And far from being the kind of bloke who would rather die than discuss his private life with strangers, he now tells everyone he meets about his baby-making prowess.

In fact, his new favourite line will be: ‘I only had to look at her and she got pregnant.’ (Warning, this can get very irritating. Especially after nine months.)

It can be hard for them to hear success stories like yours, so tell your husband to keep his ‘super sperm’ story to himself when you’re with them.

The list of foods to avoid when you’re pregnant contains all your favourites – prawns, pate, runny eggs.

So seeing the positive blue line on your pregnancy test before you’ve had a chance to stuff your face with all the ‘forbidden foods’ can be pretty gutting.

At least you can blame pregnancy hormones for your tears on missing out on that last blue cheese binge.

One minute you’re talking to your OH about thinking about trying for a baby. The next thing you know you're pregnant.

Cue total panic that you’ve not had a second to think about baby names/ prams/ maternity leave/ how to actually change a nappy.
