Looking for a new activity for your child that can boost their confidence AND their learning at school? Singing, dancing and acting classes might be just the thing.

No matter whether your child dreams of appearing on Britain’s Got Talent – or simply wants to feel more confident speaking up in class – performing arts can help. Here’s how …

1. It can help your child at school

Yes, really! A study in 2018 found structured music lessons not only help children with their short-term memory, they also boost their overall performance at school.

Researchers worked with 147 children and found those who had music lessons had a significant brain boost compared to the other children in the study.

This meant they were better at planning, organising and completing tasks in the classroom.

Now that is worth singing about!

2. It can improve your child’s confidence

Is your child feeling nervous about going back to school after the summer break, especially following months of homeschooling?

Enrolling them for performing arts lessons with Stagecoach could make a big difference.

A study by the National Theatre found primary school children who took part in drama classes had an increase in self-confidence in class.

3. It boosts your child’s imagination

Does your child love dressing up and pretending to be a character in their favourite book or cartoon? Or are they the absolute opposite and struggle to let loose with their imagination?

Drama classes can help develop – and channel – your child’s imagination. And this will help your child develop creative problem-solving skills as they get older.

The experts at Stagecoach say, ‘Just like a muscle, the more you use your imagination, the stronger it gets.’

4. It can help with your child’s social skills

A new study has found over half of parents think their child’s social skills have been affected by being out of school.

So it might surprise you to know that performing arts classes can help your child with everything from aceing their school presentations to simply talking to a teacher or classmate face to face.

Stagecoach believes in Creative Courage For Life® and teaches kids how to work in a team, develop friendships and work with different personalities. All of which are great skills for life!

5. It helps build your child’s resilience

From weekly spelling tests to homework, your child may feel under pressure to get things right at school.

Performing arts classes helps kids learn how to make mistakes … and that it’s okay to get things wrong.

Whether it’s a forgotten line in a play or the wrong step in a dance routine, it’s normal to make a mistake. All your child needs to do is get back up and have another go!

At Stagecoach, children are also taught how to give and receive feedback. This is another great way of understanding it’s okay to make mistakes and how to learn from them.

6. It cuts down your child’s screen time

Worried about the amount of time your child spends on their phone or tablet?

A recent study found 69 percent of parents felt their child’s screen time had increased during the coronavirus pandemic.

Performing arts classes are a great way to keep your child unplugged.

Stagecoach lessons are an hour and a half a week for four to six-year-olds and three hours a week for six to 18-year-olds. Which means your child will be totally engrossed in singing, dancing or acting … and not even thinking about their screens.

7. It’s fun!

Whether it’s learning a new song or perfecting the moves in a dance routine, no two Stagecoach classes are the same.

And your child will have a great time with their friends as they learn new skills, explore their creative side and grow in confidence, too. What’s not to love!
