I am really struggling with my sons anger issues. He will scream, cry, bang his head off the wall, hit things, throw things, be aggressive. I'm just at the end of my tether. He doesn't have any issues at school, he is brilliant at communicating with me about his feelings but when he has these meltdowns there is no stopping him. I have tried every technique I know but its as if he doesn't want to come out of the rage, he will begin an argument with someone else in the house after beginning to calm just so start all over again. I just don't know what to do anymore.

Have you spoken to a GP at all? Have a chat with them about what's happening and ask to be referred for neurodevelopmental assessment (if he doesn't already have a diagnosis) especially as this is really effecting your lives.

Are there things that trigger this behaviour?

Does it happen on certain days of the week? At certain times?

How are things for him at school?

It may be worth starting a diary, what triggers the outburst, what happens /gets said during the outbursts it will help you alot.

There is a fantastic group on Facebook called parenting mental health it's an amazing group.

Hi Claire, I haven't yet spoken to a GP as I felt i have handled his behaviour for the most part, as he is getting older its just getting worse. He is fine at school there are no issues, he is top of the class. I have wondered about adhd masking before as well as he has these behaviours at home but fine at school. There aren't really any triggers other than not being allowed to do something he wants to (with good reason). Theres no certain time or day, its just whenever he seems to do it. I will start a diary thankyou. I have learnt not to rise to him when he is acting out, though this can be very hard sometimes as he can make me frustrated when he doesn't want to be calmed down. I will have a look at that group as well, thankyou.
