Hi there, my son who is 4 and half now was assessed at his 2 year check and uncontrollably flapped his hands which the health visitor picked up on as a red flag for autism, she said he would need further assessments but this was just before covid and he hasn't been assessed since. He is now in nursery and the teachers made a fresh referral as since then he is showing other signs of autism. I have recieved a letter from the health team and they have said he doesn't need assessing as he doesn't meet criteria. I have no idea why as we told them what we could in the referral. They haven't even called me or asked to see him so they can see for themselves.

Does anyone know where I go now or who I can speak to? As I'm obviously not happy that they haven't even seen him.

Sorry for the long post but I'm just in need of some sort of help or advice.

Thanks in advance xx

He's a little to young to assess ad many kids show signs but it's just them learning and growing. Wait till he's over three and if his speech OK and if he's making eye contact and following instructions. Plays well with children etc. 2 is to young to tell really see how he goes. My son did all autism signs never spoke till over 3 etc lined up toys looked in corners of eyes hit alot everyone said he had autism he's 5 now and does none of thar but do think he had adhd he's very hyper doesn't sleep till late but can't get asseser yet but school have put him forward for speech help as behind comparer to others can't pronounce words properly. I'd wait a year or two and get him assessed xx

I also have an 11 year old who has ADHD it took me 9 years to get a diagnosis because people weren't listening and just like to push certain people aside it was a very hard process. X

Everything has changed when it comes to diagnosing they have to meet all criteria from what you have put your child doesnt they don't need to speak to you or see your child they will speak to nursery and ask them everything they need to know they did the same with me I know its hard give your child time he's still young
