Hi there,

my baby has had bacterial conjunctivitis for 5 days now. We have been using chloramphenicol for 5 days, 3 times a day. My son’s eye is much better and only a tiny amount of discharge in the morning. Do I still have to use the drops or can I just apply cotton wool and water and it will go away naturally?

Hi Emma

I am glad to hear that your LOs eyes are improving. Chloramphenicol eye drops recommend to use for 5 days only unless your GP has advised otherwise.

If your need to discuss further I would speak to your pharmacist or GP as they will be able to take further details to assess whether your LO needs any further treatment or whether using cotton wool and water will be sufficient.

Wishing your LO all the best

Emma
