Hi all,

Please help here . My 14 month old son not responding to name. I never recognized before , I don't know whether he was responding before or not . I started noticing last from 20 days. He hardly responds to his name. He responds to other sound , so I don't think he has any hearing problem. I am so worried. If I post this question in google , it lands me to the Autism. Anyone has same experience ?

Hi Mom M

Have you spoken to your health visitor about your worries for your son?

It can be hard when we look online for certain aspects of development which then can lead to sometimes unhelpful posts and links.

When it comes to child development there are milestones with certain ages and stages of development but we know that every baby and child is different so just because the 'textbook' says our LO should do this and that at a certain age it may not always progress like that - but thats not to say there is something going on for our LO.

Your health visitor will be able to take a more in depth assessment for your LO and look at his development holistically. Its quite common for LOs to thrive well in one area of development but may need a bit more time to develop in other areas.

In the meantime you may find tiny happy people a helpful resource in looking to support your LO in his social and communication skills.

Thanks Emma. Yesterday, I had an appointment with my Pediatrician. She called his name few times and the other nurse also called his name. He turned towards them when he was called. Doctor says he has good eye contact and he responds also. She says he doesn't look like Autistic . I don't know why he doesn't responds at home. He is 13 month and he still doesn't say mama, dada or anything. He doesn't point to the objects. I am still worried.
