Father's Day can be a hard time if you've lost your dad or a father figure, but it's also a good time to remember your dad and everything he meant to you.
These Father's Day poems are a lovely way to pay tribute to your dad's memory and celebrate his life. Poems can also be a nice way to help older children remember a parent or loved one who's died, which can be a nice way to mark special days.
1. My hero
You held my hand when I was small,
You caught me when I fell,
You're the hero of my childhood,
And later years as well,
And every time I think of you my heart still fills with pride,
Though I'll always miss you Dad, I know you're by my side.

2. In our hearts
We thought of you with love today,
But that is nothing new,
We thought about you yesterday,
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence,
We often speak your name,
Now all we have is memories,
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake,
With which we’ll never part,
God has you in his keeping,
We have you in our heart.

3. My only choice
Oh Daddy, if I could turn back time and once more hear your voice.
I'd tell you that out of all the daddies, you would be my only choice.

4. In Memory Of My Dad
If I could write a story It would be the greatest ever told,
Of a kind and loving father who had a heart of gold.
If could write a million pages,
I'll still be unable to say,
Just how much I love and miss him
Every single day.
I will remember all he taught me,
I'm hurt but won't be sad,
Because he'll send me down the answers,
And he'll always be MY DAD.

5. A special place in my heart
There’s a special kind of feeling,
When I think about you, Dad,
It’s a pleasure to remember,
All the happy times we’ve had.
There’s a special kind of caring,
That is meant for you alone,
There’s a place somewhere within my heart,
That only you can own.
Missing you always,
Happy Father’s Day.

6. Miracles
I never ask for miracles,
But today just one would do,
To watch our front door open,
And see our dad walk through.

7. A gathering
I love you and I miss you, Dad,
And though you’ve passed away,
You’ll never be forgotten,
For I think of you each day.
If heaven celebrates this day,
How special it will be,
A gathering of the many dads,
Upon our family tree.
Your father and grandfather,
And great grandfather too,
How wonderful it is, if they
can spend this day with you.
May you know how much I love you,
Though I’m here and you are there,
Happy Father’s Day in heaven,
To the best dad anywhere!

8. Hello Dad
What we'd give if we could say,
'Hello Dad' in the same old way.
To hear your voice and see your smile,
To sit with you and chat a while.
So you who have your father,
Cherish him with care.
For you will never know heartache,
Until you see his vacant chair.

9. Remembering you
Dad …
Remembering you is easy, I do it every day,
Missing you is the heartache that never goes away.

10. For a father
Remember after work you grabbed our skateboard,
crouched like a surfer, wingtips over the edge;
wheels clacketing down the pocked macadam,
you veered almost straight into the neighbor's hedge?
We ran after you laughing, shouting, Wait!
Or that August night you swept us to the fair?
The tallest person boarding the Ferris wheel,
you rocked our car right when we hit the apex
above the winking midway, to make us squeal.
Next we raced you to the games, shouting, Wait!
At your funeral, relatives and neighbors,
shaking our hands, said, 'So young to have died!'
But we've dreamt you're just skating streets away,
striding the fairgrounds toward a wilder ride.
And we're still straggling behind, shouting, Wait – !

11. Those we love
Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us everyday.
Unseen, unheard but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

how beautiful this world really can be.

13. Our father's garden
Our Father kept a garden.
A garden of the heart;
He planted all the good things,
That gave our lives their start.
He turned us to the sunshine,
And encouraged us to dream:
Fostering and nurturing
The seeds of self-esteem.
And when the winds and rain came,
He protected us enough;
But not too much because he knew
We would stand up strong and tough.
His constant good example,
Always taught us right from wrong;
Markers for our pathway that will last a lifetime long.
We are our Fathers garden,
We are his legacy.
Thank you Dad we love you

14. I miss you Dad
You never said I'm leaving,
You never said goodbye.
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knew why
A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill.

15. As we look back
Dad …
We wonder if we ever thanked you
For the sacrifices you made.
To let us have the very best?
And for the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times we shared?
If we have forgotten to show our gratitude enough for all the things you did,
We’re thanking you now.
And we are hoping you knew all along,
How much you meant to us.
